3 years from now will be my first celebration week (who's counting 🤣), but this year I'm celebrating Danielle K. McCamey, DNP, ACNP-BC, FCCP, FADLN who I know will celebrating because the DNPs of Color conference and her FAAN fellowship fall in/around this week! If you didn't know, she created DNPs of Color (DOC) to both encourage nurses of color to seek DNP education but also mentor them and create safe spaces. One of the coolest things is the manuscript mentorship so that more DOCs are publishing. NW Florida Will Receive a Boost in Top Healthcare Florida Panhandle residents will soon receive even greater healthcare benefits from the nursing school graduates of Northwest Florida State College. The nursing program is undergoing a $40M expansion that is expected to open in May at the Niceville campus. This expansion will double the enrollment in the nursing program by 2026! Dr. Charlotte Kuss, Health Sciences Dean, and Dr. Tanya Beauregard, Director of Nursing, know that the program will provide a higher level of healthcare providers to the area. Very important work being done to ensure that all states collect the same data on their nursing workforce, in order to enable state governments, researchers, and nursing associations to compare our nursing populations. I love the recommendations regarding the type of data states collect to better understand nursing workforce trends for key policy issues including average nurse age, nursing student loan debt, travel nursing, and much more. I dream about occupational therapy research leadership being able to do the same for occupational therapy.
Over the past few days I have had the privilege to attended the National Forum of State Nursing Workforce Centers annual conference in San Diego, CA. I was honored to present with Dr. Carrie M. Oliveira and Dr. Crystal DeVance-Wilson on our work to revise the National Forum's supply MDS. Ensuring all states collect the same data on their nursing workforce enables state governments, researchers, and nursing associations to compare our nursing populations. We also recommended states collect specific data to better understand nursing workforce trends for key policy issues including average nurse age, nursing student loan debt, travel nursing, and much more.
