Tomorrow (22 August 2024), GYEF in collaboration with Ga-Mphahlele Home-Coming and Agang Youth Movement will be hosting the Godisanang Grade 9 Subject Choice & Career Guidance. The program will be focused on helping the grade 9 learners make correct subject choices that will help them later on when they complete their matric. We have noted that many learners struggle to get into careers of their choices because they didn’t choose correct subjects earlier on. To curb this, we strongly believe this collaborative intervention program will help many now, for their benefit later on. The program will be held at the Itsoseng Community Hall, which was made possible by the intervention of the Itsoseng Stakeholders Forum. As part of the Link Link Together Initiatives, “Link and Explore – Community and Career Exploration in Kwun Tong” by Teach For Hong Kong has successfully completed its first phase! 🎉 This project aims to help underprivileged secondary school students in Kwun Tong discover community resources and explore various career opportunities through gamified tasks. We have invited a group of passionate university students and young teachers to serve as Youth Ambassadors who will support the students in exploring the community and designing gamified tasks. [From Thesis to Action: Contributing to Groundbreaking Research on the Implementation of Permendikbudristek to Promote Inclusivity in Higher Education] It turns out my learning on rape myth acceptance didn’t end with my thesis. Now, I have the chance to assist in research on the same topic, specifically in conducting an FGD as part of a study led by a research team from Fakultas Psikologi & Fakultas Pendidikan dan Bahasa Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia, FISIP Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta, and Fakultas Psikologi Universitas Indonesia & Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, under the Direktorat Jenderal Pendidikan Tinggi, Riset dan Teknologi Kemdikbudristek (DRTPM) 2024. The study, titled "Implementasi Permendikbudristek Nomor 30 Tahun 2021 untuk Mendorong Inklusivitas dalam Perguruan Tinggi", investigates how sexual violence and diversity are understood and addressed on university campuses. The FGD included participants from 20 universities across Java and other regions, involving leaders, lecturers, educational staff, and students who are part of their campus's Satgas PPKS. Our discussions centered around rape myth acceptance, institutional betrayal, and the handling of sexual violence reports within academic settings. It was insightful to compare this experience with my previous work involving police officers, especially when examining how these issues manifest in different institutions. One key realization is that sexual violence remains misunderstood and overlooked, particularly in situations involving hierarchical relationships. This experience has given me a broader perspective on the ongoing challenges universities face in dealing with these issues. I hope this research can contribute to the larger goal of driving inclusivity in higher education, aligning with the vision to create safer, more inclusive environments for all. Going further to share the knowledge and ideas gotten from the meet with Unilag first class students organized by Tunde Onakoya on Wednesday, 29th of January, 2025. The second speaker was Sadiq E. . He is so calm and humble, I love the way he keeps saying "right?" Mr. Sadiq E. shared with us the importance of listening. He emphasized that the quality of listening is being able to listen. He made it known that there is nothing wrong in being wrong, hence, we should be willing to be wrong. "Be wise to move together" he said. United we stand, divided with fall. He made a good illustration with the crime rate. He made it known that people do not move into crime because they are bad, sometimes, they do because they do not have a choice. It is essential as humans that we should help people around us. We can't tell what the person is going through, that singular act can be a turn around for the person. Don't push people away. During the 2024 graduation ceremony on Thursday, December 12th, the Chairperson of the KIUT Council and Chancellor of KIU Uganda, Professor Yunus Mgaya, shared insights on how the university prepares its graduates for success in the labor market. Professor Mgaya stressed that the university’s curricula are designed not only to make students employable but also to equip them with the skills necessary for self-employment.
