We met with MSP Colin Beattie at Bonnyrigg Pharmacy, which is in his constituency of Midlothian North and Musselburgh. We discussed the pressures which community pharmacy businesses are facing including rising medicine costs and the demand on complimentary services such as free prescription deliveries to patients. We also highlighted the importance of having a sustainable funding model to allow these services to continue to support communities, whilst also allowing community pharmacies to invest in the future of service delivery. https://lnkd.in/eiy2Qeym

📢 Enhancing Collaboration for Optimal Patient Care: Pharmacy First and General Practice Partnerships For the Pharmacy First service to truly benefit patients, the NHS, and community pharmacies, fostering robust relationships between community pharmacies and local general practices is essential. 🤝 Building Trust Strong local partnerships will empower general practice teams to confidently refer patients to Pharmacy First and other community pharmacy services when appropriate. ⏳ Commitment to Change Achieving lasting changes in referral practices requires time and persistent effort. Embedding referrals from general practice to Pharmacy First will likely need several months or more of sustained work. 🔍 Positive Feedback and Challenges Many LPCs and pharmacy teams have shared encouraging feedback about how these local partnerships are driving a high volume of referrals and patient benefits. However, some pharmacy teams face challenges with low or nonexistent referral rates. 💡 Sustained Effort Needed Drawing from the rollout of GP referrals to the Community Pharmacist Consultation Service, we know that sustained efforts are crucial to establish and maintain referral practices over time. 📚 New and Updated Resources To assist pharmacy owners, their teams, and LPCs in engaging with general practice colleagues, there are new published resources and updated existing ones. We heard that pressures placed on pharmacy professionals are real and can be pervasive. #Pharmacists are numbers only in some organizations! , well , Rami , isn't it all about numbers? my answer is simple: if it is only about numbers , let us dissolve our College and switch #pharmacies into one of two : a governmental run Pharmacies ( some countries did it and failed ) , or grocery stores run by business people only ( isn't this the current situation 🤔) , the root causes for this crisis are : - ignoring many shouts on this issue before for many years -no legislations of any type that protect #whistelblowers -#pbms -outdated #reimbursement models from the 90s ! #corporate influence inside #government decision makers #pharmacists being too polite and passive about the #profession when compared to other #healthcare professionals , -non accountable people in pharmacy world pushing accountable people to do wrong things ( check the US ,you will see where we are heading !) -a hidden "slave master " #workculture based on loyalty not skills or work ethics around patients and professionals.
