We are excited to serve you, Saratoga Springs! We signed our lease and began the planning process over 26 months ago. At times I loathed the wait, but am now realizing that all of the wait was worth it. It provided time to complete Lehi Bakery Main Street construction, plan our operations strategy, and (most importantly) develop our people to set the store up for success. I couldn’t be more proud of our team from top to bottom who all contributed insights, training, and the much needed willingness to do anything and everything outside their formal job descriptions. There dreaded words “that’s not my job” have never been uttered. Our team always does whatever it takes. The proudest part of today is that I get to call my friend, Jeff, the leader and manager of the store. He is a Saratoga Springs resident, and has developed from an entry-level donut fryer into a store manager. The people development process is the reason why this career is starting to feel more and more like a calling. If today’s opening wasn’t enough reason to celebrate and reflect, it is worth mentioning that we also received unanimous final city council approval from Cedar Hills last night for what will become Lehi Bakery #3 this fall. We are excited to watch that construction process, and develop a new group of leaders. With all of the reasons to celebrate, and with life sometimes feeling like it is going 100 miles per hour, I will be taking some time off to dedicate to my family, with limited work requirements. The “dark side” of being an entrepreneur has at times (inexcusably) caused my focus to drift. I struggle with being able to consistently balance work and family life, and sometimes a little detox is in order to recover, recalibrate, and refocus. Tysons has transformed more than any other D.C. suburb over the past decade. Why it matters: The neighborhood, once synonymous with the mall, is brimming with new restaurants, entertainment venues, and, yes, shops. Driving the news: Capital One Center is among the biggest game changers, with a massive, sky-high Star Hill beer garden, Perch Putt minigolf, elegant Japanese restaurant Wren, a concert hall, and a boutique hotel. Capital One Park, a Major League-quality baseball field and stadium, opened this year and hosts college and travel teams. More fitness and greenspaces are in the works. What's next: The Boro development, which frequently hosts neighborhood festivals, is gearing up for a "phase two" expansion. It'll include a one-acre park with outdoor dining areas, around 40,000 square feet of retail space, and more than 800 residential units, including The Trillium, a luxury senior living community slated to open in June of next year. #Tysons #FairfaxCounty

Buc-ee's - Known for clean bathrooms is their UVP (unique value proposition.) This convenience store has always fascinated me. There is no doubt that looking for bathrooms "off the highway" can be dicey. My wife and our daughters would almost universally say, high risk trying to find one that feels clean and safe to use - I have traveled for over 30 years but never went into one of these or seen one until reading about it a few years ago. If you are in the area where they are located, and you have interest in how brands win, this is worth a visit. - If you work for, own, or starting a brand, sometimes we overthink or undervalue having a UVP. It is worth exploring if your brand has the clarity for consumers. - They drive higher traffic, conversation, and ticket in their stores than most if not all other competitors and it starts with simply having clean bathrooms.
