At a conference recently I was asked how managed services can transform NHS clinical services. I believe that our partnership at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust in Carlisle helps answer this question. It is bigger than equipment - with the delivery of a new endoscopy unit on the Cumberland Infirmary site. The new build will increase endoscopy capacity, shorten waiting times and ensure cancers are diagnosed earlier. Ergéa can fund, build and deliver a vendor neutral equipment solution – all wrapped in a managed service contract. If you have an Imaging, Radiotherapy or Endoscopy healthcare built environment project in the planning stages or that has stalled, please get in touch to see how Ergéa can help.

Can you tell us how pathways to emergency laparotomy work in practice? We know that many patients experience delays in emergency laparotomy, but the complexity of care on this pathway makes improvement challenging. We’re running a project to understand how the pathway works in practice. Can you help? We're looking for healthcare professionals involved in delivering care at all stages of the emergency laparotomy pathway from the emergency department to theatre and beyond, as well managers with responsibilities for services along that pathway. We’re asking you to share your experiences and ideas in this survey (around 5-10 minutes). Your insights will help us to understand how these pathways are working across the NHS. The survey is hosted on the Thiscovery platform: https://bit.ly/4gkrf2u Find out more about the project and the team behind it: https://bit.ly/42vqEI2 #anaesthesia #laparotomy #abdominalsurgery

"We've already started to see positive progress in terms of our waiting list size in the first two weeks. Within this timeframe since the unit's been open, we've scoped an additional 336 patients." Kathryn Kelter, Head of Operations for Planned Care at the University Hospitals of North Midlands. We're thrilled to see the positive impact of University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust mobile endoscopy unit. By delivering diagnostics more timely, the solution eases the pressure on hospital services, helping UHNM meet NHS England's target of eliminating overdue surveillance procedures. EMS Healthcare’s mobile unit was quickly commissioned and operational within just five weeks, demonstrating the benefits of rapid installation to provide capacity wherever and whenever it's needed most. The mobile endoscopy solution provided by EMS Healthcare and Medinet features two diagnostic rooms and its own decontamination facility. It is operational seven days a week and aims to facilitate 4,500 appointments, giving patients timely access to essential tests. Currently, there are over 7.5 million unresolved care pathways affecting an estimated 6.4 million individuals in England, with nearly 4 million pathways contributing to a significant backlog accumulated over the last decade. In an NHS environment, maintaining patient care is crucial, a fully–managed mobile clinical space can provide a valuable alternative to closures, refurbishments and decant of facilities. The temporary infrastructure can rapidly boost capacity, mitigate disruption and maintain patient care standards. If you require help with reducing waiting lists and increasing capacity for diagnostic tests, watch our video to see how we can support. 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐧 The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's 𝐑𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are always striving to enhance patient care and operational efficiency. A significant step in this journey has been the implementation of MyPorter. Patricia Wright, Trust CEO, has always emphasised the crucial role of efficient patient movement within the hospital. She stated, “One of the things that’s really important is flow through the hospital and porters are absolutely critical to flow through the hospital. So what it does in a way is it speeds up that flow process and makes sure that patients get diagnosed and then treated as quickly as possible.” Since integrating MyPorter, the Trust has significantly enhanced the speed and coordination of patient transfers, specially within Radiology and the Emergency Department. By utilising the system’s auto allocation feature, porters receive timely and accurate tasks, minimising patient wait times and ensuring swift diagnoses and treatments. This precise coordination is vital, especially when patients need to be transferred for urgent imaging or treatments. Case Study: Short Form Business Case for Endoscopy Transformation in Cheshire and Merseyside Cheshire and Merseyside (C&M) Endoscopy Network partnered with the NHS Transformation Unit (NHS TU) to produce a short-form business case aimed at securing £8.1 million in capital funding from NHS England. This funding supported the transformation of endoscopy services across the region, ensuring they are future-proofed for the next 5-10 years. Using the Five Case Model, we collaborated closely with stakeholders to clearly define the case for change and develop a tailored model of care. We guided a comprehensive options development and evaluation process, agreed on commercial strategies, built a strong financial case, and finalised a detailed implementation plan. The business case was authored using a short-form template, ensuring it met NHS England’s requirements.
