Sorry to everyone dealing with wintry weather today that isn't used to it! If there is snow accumulation of 4" or more from TX, to LA, and FL, it will be the largest snow event in that area since 1865! Unscientifically, I can say that you would have more snow than we've gotten in parts of MN this season too. More "fun" cold weather work info: - OSHA, even Minnesota Department of Labor, does not specify a temperature at which it is too cold to work outdoors - In personal experience, an outdoor construction project I worked on had a rule of -10*F... if it was -10*F before factoring in the windchill, we did not report to the jobsite. We had a specific news and radio channel to look to as our source of temperature. - At -10*F, frostbite can develop in less than 10 minutes on exposed skin. - There are many versions of this phrase, but I like this one from Vogue in 1941, "There is no bad weather, only bad clothes" To the last point, Ergodyne has amazing gloves for cold weather or indoor environments like cold storage. I know because I've tried on different pairs of their gloves and even dunked my hand in a water tank with them on! Check out their thermal glove line here: https://lnkd.in/gWMwJQjC
Is this a side effect of global warming?!? 🤔
Cool stuff! Our low this morning in south central KS was -5. Brrr. Winds were low so that was nice.
Abby Ferri, CSP, ARM I remember in the early 2000’s doing -15 degree ride alongs in Minnesota and Wisconsin. We were making post-midnight deliveries to a gasoline and convenience store chain you’d recognize. In a truck that just never seemed to get warm. Brrr.
Not used to it is an understatement for Houston 😂
As a worker I would say. Are you kidding me? -10?
Ms. Abby - unfortunately I am not worried about getting cold. But just driving to work as in Houston - this stuff is very unusual, and these folks do NOT know how to drive in it.
45F for the win.
On a podcast I listened to, the Canadian Mounted Police worked in conditions with -90° temperatures long ago, and sled dogs as transportation. Glad for modern guidelines and wearable technology, that's for sure!
Abby Ferri, CSP, ARM curious your thoughts on not having a “too cold” temp but we have “too hot” temps per the government.

2moTraveling around the Houston area from today through Wednesday may be very uncertain/unsafe. Texas is not prepared for a harsh winter at all.
