In manufacturing, increasing productivity by machines and hence employees' skillset/STEM needs are in the employers' hands. S'pore with 90% of its employees working in SME/GLC companies which usually supply the MNC in manufacturing can learn from our neighbour.

https://lnkd.in/gbqUNEBr Unlike land, air and sea transport vehicle is difficult and hazardous to fully electrified but with biofuel hybrid and battery energy propulsion providing safe connectivity of its USV/UMV software is a reality. Hybrid vehicles with biofuel will be a safer and cheaper better sustainable alternative than fully EV needing recharging infrastructure and questionable sustainability.

A transformed and more sustainable energy and chemicals sector will remain an attractive growth proposition...S'pore has the core engineering, integrated value chain of diverse products and marine logistics support for Asia imports and distribution. Besides fossil products for power/electricity generation hopefully replaceable by green hydrogen/biomass in future, the marine and aviation transportation still depend on their partial replacement with sustainable biofuel. Biofuel/its chemical raw materials are also readily available from ASEAN with country mandates to replace fossil fuel in their ICE vehicles. Full EV cars are expensive not very popular due to the battery, questionable electricity charging/recharging sources besides energy metal mining and sustainability issues. In fact, hybrid ICE vehicles are more popular as no need battery recharging infrastructure and help reduce carbon emission immediately with biofuel. We should not ban ICE as other fuel alternatives are still having sustainability and circular economy problems. https://lnkd.in/gBxzgWkS The manufacturers do not produce the electricity. It is the biomass/biogas industry that does.... this is the truth of EV battery or recharging it! which puts ICE on a fair playing field since it too can use biofuel to lower GHG emissions.

Besides these factors, S'pore along with ASEAN can too cut down our CO2 emission immediately with our commercial vehicles than pushing costly EVs and its building new charging stations and supporting infrastructure, still depending on natural gas electricity source.

https://lnkd.in/gumjV4T7 Singapore bunker supplier Golden Island Diesel Oil Trading Pte Ltd (Golden Island) on 13 April supplied B30 biofuel to Double Happiness, a 4,700 metric tonne (mt) capacity bunker tanker operated by the company, as part of preparations for IMO 2030/2050....which is coming and the MPA (Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore) has published the Maritime Singapore Decarbonisation Blueprint clearly identifying carbon reduction targets for the local bunkering sector.” The document, amongst others, requires all Singapore domestic harbour craft to achieve 15% reduction in absolute emissions from 2021 levels by 2023, and a 50% reduction in absolute emissions from 2030 levels by 2050.

https://lnkd.in/gyJfMBDf Prof Tong said Singapore has an advantage because of its well-established chemical and refining industry, which could allow it to separate, purify and mass produce biofuels at a much lower cost. “Relatively minor investments in research and development would quickly help us to transition from petrochemicals to biofuels and bioresources,” he added. Dr Broadstock said turning towards biofuels could not only diversify the Republic’s energy mix, but also put in place “important building blocks” for a circular economy.
