The education system allows for many opportunities for implicit biases to emerge. These biases may contrast with explicit egalitarian intentions, thereby creating a challenging gap between educators' intentions and outcomes. Addressing these biases requires ongoing training, reflection and systemic changes to create an equitable learning environment. It is our jobs as teachers to do self-reflections daily reflecting on our beliefs and assumptions to help address our implicit biases we put on our students. As a school system, we need more diversity trainings, and workshops that focuses on recognizing and mitigating implicit biases.. If foreign language was taught starting in elementary school. If classes for emotional expression were just as respected for their importance as STEAM courses.
