This post reminded me of the pain often associated with growth and learning.
Growth is an energy that we are conditioned to experience as pain. It may be due to being raised in a system built to create obedient soldiers. It's no surprise to me that a fixed mindset is quickly developed at a young age. "I'm just not good at math" is one of my favorites.
If born with a fixed mindset, we would give up learning to walk or talk.
If we weren't immediately grasping walking or talking, we would say, "Clearly, im not good at walking or talking; I should just give up and crawl" 😂
People with a growth mindset seek that feeling of growth. Staying stagnant causes their discomfort.
Also fascinating about a growth mindset is the typical response to learning (I think learning may be called failure in school and corporate America): "I'm going to get fired."
What if we instead held ourselves with high value and self-worth and had the confidence that comes with that? That's the most significant loss in our good soldier training.
For those who managed not to lose their self-worth (confidence) or who can regain it, the pain is not fear of getting fired. It is fear of staying in patterns you had outgrown
