The Gavan Bridge spans the river in two short, single fields. The plans of the bridge cross section show that the bridge was probably built in two stages. The soffits of the two bridge plates are not in one plane. The bridge plates are insufficiently reinforced and the concrete quality of the underside of the bridge does not comply with the standards today. Solution: The required reinforcement on the underside of the slabs is achieved with tensioned CFRP plates. The total of 30 CarboStress® systems are anchored directly in the area of the abutments and the bridge pillar. The force has been reduced due to the moderate quality of concrete and all steel parts are executed due to the strong weathering in stainless chrome steel. StressHead AG

Sustainable roof reinforcement with CarboStress® - sports hall of a secondary school in Thörl (Styria, Austria) The visible condition of the structure and the results of the structural analysis showed that the roof downstand beams had to be strengthened in the longitudinal direction. Post-tensioning the roof with our CFRP plates reduced deflection and improved both structural integrity and serviceability. Due to the deflection under the existing loads, a post-tensioning solution was the only viable and feasible option. Would you like additional information? A sustainable, safe and fast solution for earthquake reinforcement is our post-tensioned CarboStress® system. All these points were implemented excellently at the Upper Valais Hospital Centre, Visp (CH). Project: In the course of a structural re-analysis of the hospital centre on the basis of current structural standards, it was found that the earthquake resistance was not guaranteed. During the preliminary project phase, two strengthening solutions were proposed. The first option consisted of additional reinforced concrete walls by the conventional construction method. The second option was to strengthen with post-tensioned CFRP plates, vertically. Solution: A comparison of the two options showed that it would be cheaper to strengthen the masonry with vertical post-tensioned CFRP plates than to install the new RC walls. Another advantage of the CFRP strengthening system is its speed of application. The client decided in favour of the CFRP option. The 33 post-tensioned CFRP plates were installed in the lift shaft in record time of less than 3 weeks, including the essential operating rooms. Would you like additional information? The concept of post-tensioning: a force is applied to create permanent stress in a structure, so it can withstand the working load more effectively, or with less total deflection. In conventional post-tensioning, the load is applied through steel tendons within the concrete structure. With the CarboStress® system, the advantages of the Sika Carbodur® CFRP plates and regular post-tensioning are combined to form a unique external active strengthening solution. The tendon is lightweight, corrosion-free and fast to install. It is therefore ideally suited for installation in buildings or under bridges where an efficient construction process is required. Nachhaltige Brückenverstärkung - CarboStress® & Sikadur® - Schweiz Die im Jahr 1969/70 erbaute Brücke Sandacher ist als Spannbetonkonstruktion ausgeführt und dient der Querung der Nationalstrasse N1 und der Gleise des Rangierbahnhofes Limmattal.
 Sie weist eine Gesamtlänge von 377.5 Metern auf, welche sich aus 14 Feldern zu 20 – 33 m Spannweite zusammensetzt.
 Die Bestandsaufnahmen haben aufgezeigt, dass alle vier Koppelfugen in der Arbeitsfuge gerissen sind. Der Einzelriss verläuft mit konstanter Rissbreite entlang der unteren Hohlkastenplatte und verjüngt sich in den seitlichen Stegen nach oben hin. An sämtlichen Koppelfugen wurden die bestehenden Risse mittels Sikadur®-52 Injektionen ausinjiziert und lokal mittels externer Vorspannung mit gespannten CFK-Lamellen (CarboStress®) verstärkt. Pro Koppelfuge sind 18 CarboStress® mit je 220 kN Vorspannkraft angebracht (ca. 4000 kN pro Fuge). Die Längen der Spannsysteme betragen zwischen 6.5 und 10.5 Meter. Die Ausführung erfolgte unter laufendem Zugsverkehr mit hohen Sicherheitsmassnahmen in vier Etappen zur vollsten Zufriedenheit der SBB. Mit diesen Verstärkungsmassnahmen ist eine instandsetzungsfreie Nutzungsdauer von mindestens 40 Jahren sichergestellt.
