Confidence is vital in every industry, particularly in international communication. According to CSA's latest global survey, human conference interpreting outperforms machine interpreting in delivering reliable communication trusted by humans. Trust is essential for exchanging messages with a global audience, especially when human interests are at stake. Don't take our word for it, trust the experts. #Trust #simultaneousInterpreting #InternationalAudience

We are super excited that the EU Commission has selected our innovative ILA-approach “Life Chances BAföG” as one of its #TSI2024 flagship projects and is now supporting its further conceptualization in Germany. This makes it the first BMBF project to receive funding through the EU Commission's #TechnicalSupportInstrument!! Today the winners were announced at a press conference by EU Commissioner Elisa Ferreira in Brussels: "Public Administrations are more and more expected to respond to emerging challenges and to deliver on common priorities, from the transition to a net-zero economy to the role of AI in an increasingly digital society. The TSI is there to help Member States to translate ambitious reform needs into action through valuable expertise and tailored support." As part of the TSI program BMBF is receiving tailor-made expertise with the aim of further developing Individual Learning Accounts in Germany. It does not come in the form of direct financial support but consists instead of the provision of high-quality consulting, expertise and knowledge and can take the form of strategic or technical advice, studies assessing reform needs, training, or in-country missions by experts. https://lnkd.in/drdAZKsY

Narratives Matter A few weeks ago, we ran our bi-monthly Crucial Conversations Clinic, where clients can drop in with challenges, and we work together as a group to explore them. This last one focused on sticky words - reflecting on language that harms and language that heals. We explored some of the challenges that regularly come up in organisations around EDI lexicons, how to ensure we're all on the same page about why we use the words we do, and how to repair when ruptures occur when language harms. It was a great session. Last night, I watched both BBC News and Channel 4 News sequentially. I'm stunned to see a barrage of harm still being done by sticking to the same narrative and the lack of challenge on both news channels. In a whole year, the narrative hasn't even vaguely shifted. It's a full-on genocide we are witnessing, not a war, conflict or humanitarian crisis. To see not one journalist challenge this was beyond shocking. Naming and humanising four dead IDF soldiers with full back stories and interviews about their lives whilst, without much commentary, showing images of apparently faceless and nameless people fighting for their lives in what remains of hospitals, with others being burned alive whilst sleeping, is WRONG and contributes to dehumanising, apathy and lack of compassion. Who is making these programming decisions? To see the worst violence I have ever witnessed being talked about like it was a game of battleships by emotionless British officials discussing strategies, defence, blaming the US for no resistance, the inferences that there's nothing people outside the region can do, the overarching dismissal of it being 'over there' where everyone is as bad as each other committing war crimes... We may feel we can do little to change these devastating outcomes, but we can avoid complicity in reinforcing a narrative that doesn't represent us at every opportunity we have. I appreciate how Dr Tanya Haj Hassan challenges and educates journalists on their use of language with so much power and impact.

European Health Data Space EHDS is progressing well! The negotiations have been conducted in less than two years, after the presentation of the draft text by the European Commission in May 2022. The compromise text has been definitively approved in plenary session by MEPs on 24 April. This vote marks the end of the legislative process. The text is due to enter into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU, which is expected soon, hopefully before the end of this year. The implementation will take place gradually, within two to eight years, depending on the complexity of the provisions concerned. The launch and deployment of the EHDS will be really interesting : it is indeed the first of eleven European sectoral data spaces that are soon to be set up as part of the European Digital Decade strategy.
