Your client (an employer) is sharing some risk, so I'm not saying ignore their max exposure...it's important. But the goal is to help them control costs and ultimately...WIN. Now, to my point... Let's say you've been presented a couple different LF programs, and you need to help your client decide which option would be the best for them. 𝗠𝗮𝘅 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀: Program 1 = $2M Program 2 = $1.8M Before you start implementing Program 2, hang on a second. What about Fixed Costs, that'll include stop loss & admin fees? 𝗙𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀: Program 1 = $600,000 Program 2 = $935,000 What do you think now? With max liability being comparable, you know that higher fixed costs = less opportunity to win. Program 1 is the play here as you help them craft a long-term strategy. Why Moneyball? 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱. Your role is to help them see the bigger picture in their choice here, and then guide them in their strategy to drive claims down, and maximize the opportunity that they have. “According to evidence submitted at the arbitration hearings, Priebe started by buying $18.9 million of variable annuities for the foundation, earning an estimated $1.2 million in commissions.” Are you f***ing kidding me!!!! Oh it gets worse! “Meanwhile, Priebe had been repeatedly selling some of the variable annuities and buying others, earning fresh commissions along the way.” And worse “All told, he had the foundation buy more than $47 million in variable annuities, according to evidence at the arbitration hearing, generating an estimated $3.3 million in commissions.” This story is absolutely killing me a family taken advantage of by a financial advisor that is also a broker dealer and insurance salesman is absolutely ridiculous. The poor investment management costed them millions of investment earnings that could have went towards health research for a disease their family was personally affected by. This is why I continually harp on people using financial planners that are registered investment advisers and are not broker dealers and don’t have insurance licenses. These type financial planners are your best option to ensure you have someone acting as a fiduciary and not just trying to earn a bunch of commissions and take advantage of you. This practice frankly should be illegal if you ask me and I hope this verdict at least stands and they have to repay this family the $7.3M awarded which is probably a drop in the bucket based on the opportunity cost of not being invested properly. When investing especially if you come across a big stockpile of cash be wise who you use to help manage your money don’t fall for flashy gimmicks like flying you to a meeting on a private jet that is a red flag! #BuildWealth the right way with a #Fiduciary by your side.
