Yesterday the Erickson-Hall Team broke ground on a new conference center and administrative building for the Riverside County Office of Education (RCOE) in Indio. This new facility will significantly expand RCOE’s capacity to serve the community, adding a state-of-the-art conference center equipped with skyfold walls, new office spaces, increased parking capacity, a warehouse and more. “We are excited to begin construction on this functional and modern conference center that will benefit students and educators of the Greater Coachella Valley for generations to come,” said Riverside County Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Edwin Gomez. “From student competitions and professional development trainings to regional conferences and partnership events with the community, this facility will serve as a beacon of commitment to the transformative power of education.” The project is slated for completion in April 2026 and marks a major milestone in RCOE’s ongoing efforts to provide modern, efficient spaces for not only day-to-day administrative operations but community collaboration. The new facility will serve as an education hub for the region, reinforcing RCOE’s mission to ensure high-quality education opportunities for all students in Riverside County. Erickson-Hall takes pride in the partnership with RCOE and the significance of this project. We are honored to work with the Riverside County Office of Education on this transformative development. This facility will not only enhance the administrative capabilities of RCOE but also provide a vital resource for the entire community. Thank you to all who were in attendance to help us celebrate.

The Monterey County Office of Education (MCOE) is excited to announce progress on its highly anticipated new conference center project, which is currently in the early design phase. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a vital hub for collaboration, training, and community engagement. MCOE leaders hosted PBK Architects, the organization partnering on this project, for a tour of MCOE’s current facilities. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the essential features and functionality of the new building. Bi-weekly meetings have been underway, ensuring a seamless progression of this ambitious project. The conference center, designed to replace the old outdated West Campus portables, will consist of a conference center with the capacity to host up to 500 people. In addition to conference space, it will house several MCOE departments, creating a centralized environment for efficient operations. This investment will not only reduce long-term costs associated with renting external spaces but also provide a modern, purpose-built environment tailored to MCOE’s growing needs. The new facility represents a commitment to innovation and sustainability, ensuring MCOE can continue to serve Monterey County students, parents, and the broader community effectively for years to come. The project is slated for completion by June 30, 2027, marking a significant milestone in MCOE’s mission to support education and community development. Stay tuned for updates as we take the next steps toward making this vision a reality!

I was chatting with Jeff Kallay about the "fourth turning" and it's impact on the campus visit. We're still learning about post-COVID culture on campuses, but one thing's for certain: you should always be nailing it on the basics. If you're not already self-auditing your campus visit, you should be. Even little missed moments on tours can make an impression - one that you don't want. But if you need help, we've got you. Learn about this, and Michelle's new campus visit offering, on the Echo Delta website: https://lnkd.in/eaxJEXsH

Higher Ed enrollment, like our society and country, is in a Fourth Turning (read Neil Howe's book); chaos and crisis are changing institutions and structure. But, if your college or university has a priority on providing placed-based, residential and on-campus undergraduate education; then the basics of your campus visit still matter. I interviewed my Echo Delta enrollment consulting colleague Michelle Rhodes about the importance and often overlooked basics for our blog. It is a two minute read that gives advice on guidance on the baseline of all campus visit experiences. In 2011 and 2015, SCSOS laid the foundation for future growth by purchasing lots behind our current Klamath building, preparing for expansion. Under Superintendent Tom Reusser's leadership since 2019, the organization has focused on three core promises: creating opportunities for students, supporting local districts, and establishing a strong community presence. Today, these goals come to fruition as we break ground on a transformative project. New Building Highlights: • Investment: $24 million • Size: Approximately 38,000 square feet over two stories • Sustainability: Fully electric with a battery backup system • Facilities: Modern office spaces, adaptable classrooms, and a 525-person conference space (available for community rental) Programs to be Housed: • One Stop and Job Central • Sutter County Career Training Center (Medical Assistant and Cosmetology programs) • Adult Education programs (Phlebotomy, CNA, Dental Assistant, EKG, and LVN programs) • Special Education Adult Transition Program Currently, SCSOS spends a substantial portion of its budget on rented spaces for these programs. This new facility represents a forward-looking, cost-efficient investment that will enhance education, career training, and community engagement for years to come. Together, we are building a stronger, brighter future for Sutter County.

I wanted to share a little bit more about the struggles of K-12 educators, especially in the area of Professional Development. What I am sharing is specific to my state (MT), but certainly there are other states and districts that have similar struggles. I presented at the Montana State Educator Conference last week. I would love to know total attendance of this event - it was not a significant percentage of MT teachers. Those teachers that did show up, were excited to learn from other educators in the sessions that they attended! I don't expect every teacher in the state to want to attend the conference. There are many great options for PD virtually and it can be inconvenient or impossible to travel. But that being said, educators that are interested in attending face a number of barriers: 1. Conference Registration fee ($40) 2. Conference location. I drove 4.5 hrs each way to get to Bozeman for the conference. I paid for my own gas. Keep in mind, MT is large. Depending on conference location, some teachers would drive 7+ hrs. 3. Lodging/per diem: Teachers are responsible for finding accommodations. In Bozeman, and many other places in MT, this means hundreds of dollars a night for a hotel (paid by teacher). 4. Presenter pay: I received $30/hr and CEU per hour of facilitation. I facilitated 2 sessions - $60. No prep pay, no additional CEUs. I can't even cover my gas. Perhaps other districts in the state offer to cover some or all of those costs.
