A few years ago, I was sat in a room with about 100 acute physicians. And the mood was tense. Their hospital estate was so knackered that at one point the medical director said: "I know about the broken toilets on the surgical floor. I have been told about 'the bucket'. We are trying our best to solve this." Men are told to “suck it up” quite often, but over the years we’ve learned, whether it’s trying to hide pain, or trying to tough it out it can lead to further complications that could have been avoided. Men have always been seen as providers and that pressure sometimes means them not taking care of themselves. Men’s health month is about providing awareness so that men can prioritize their health and others can realize the importance of prioritizing their health.
