This is a common problem in South Africa - particularly for residential incidents. "Impact of crime on small business report: Executive summary" (2014): found the average cost of an incident at R15556 - allowing for inflation by 2023 it would be significantly higher in the region of R28 818. Depending on the risk assessment, a property could experience 2 or 3 or more incidents of this nature over the lifespan of a video surveillance system. Just two incidents in that period is already over R57000. Now here we are excluding all the non-monetary consequences of an incident, loss of customer, loss of reputation, statt recruitment and retention, death, injury, etc. This is the figure that acts as a benchmark to determining how much you should invest in crime prevention. It will easily inform you of whether you are taking the security of your property and loved ones seriously or not. Are you serious when you want to deploy a security system for R2999 to mitigate this kind of risk.
