The latest edition of the Ericsson Mobility Report comes with a couple of adjusted projections for the period to 2029, including an upgraded forecast for 5G mobile subscriptions at the global level. A specific data point caught my eye in the latest Ericsson #MobilityReport update: the decline in #4G subscriptions for the first time. Over the last quarter of 2023, the total decreased by 12 million, now standing at around 5.1 billion, constituting 61 percent of all mobile subscriptions. In contrast, #5G subscriptions surged by 154 million during the same quarter, bringing the total close to 1.6 billion, now representing 19 percent of all mobile subscriptions. Furthermore, more than 290 communications service providers have introduced commercial 5G services, with over 40 deploying or launching 5G Standalone (SA) networks. 5G has arrived and is here to stay, with the deployment of 5G Standalone initiating noticeable changes in both operators' offerings and consumers' behaviors. #telco #industrytrends
