The sky is not the limit when #5G heads into space! 🛰️ Today we're happy to announce we're joining the Mobile Satellite Services Association (MSSA), to advance a Non-Terrestrial Network ecosystem and expand global connectivity. MSSA is an industry initiative aimed at progressing Direct-to-Device (D2D) and IoT services through space-based networks. 📡 The effort brings together an ecosystem of Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) providers with the goal of extending mobile coverage globally. 🌐 🗨️ “Through MSSA, Ericsson is keen to advance the goal of ubiquitous connectivity through the integration of terrestrial and space-based networks,” says Freddie Sevonius Södergren, Head of Technology & Strategy at Ericsson’s Business Area Networks. “Integrating Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN) with land-based cellular networks has the potential to enhance mobile coverage and reliable connections globally.” Read the full news 🗞️ here: https://lnkd.in/eJnVqexS

Iridium Pushes Boundaries with 3GPP Acceptance of NTN Standards for Next-Gen Connectivity. We've deep dived into the private LTE/5G network market and its implications on the IoT market recently. There were a total of 4,700 private LTE/5G networks deployed across the world at the end of 2024, excluding proof-of-concept (PoC) projects. With the growing momentum around private LTE and more local 5G spectrum becoming available across regions, the private LTE/5G network market is set to grow significantly in the next years. Until 2029, Berg Insight forecasts that the number of private LTE/5G network deployments will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 38 percent to reach 23,600 networks at the end of the period.

LTE and IoT? For those IoT applications where data is transmitted in a LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network), cellular networks such as NB-IoT and LTE-M offer a solution for Low Data Rate and Long Range data transmission. Adrastea-I is a radio module that offers a flexible mode selection between LTE CAT M and NB-IoT. With this flexibility, the device can be placed up to 1,000 meters away from the closest LTE Base Station and the achievable data rates go from 158 kpbs (NB-IoT) up to 1 Mbps (LTE-M).
