It's a great reminder that just because your competitors do things one way, doesn't mean it's the right way for you. It's important to look at metrics that can drive your business, but the same metrics others focus on may not be right for you. I’ve noticed something recently with my boys and their baseball games. The games they win are where the team consistently hits singles and they get runners on base. If they were only going for home runs, they would honestly lose every game. They are nice when they happen, but are more like icing on the cake of scoring consistent runs. I think real estate is similar. Every deal doesn’t need to be a home run. Consistent singles are the way to go. What is a single? Depends on where you are at. Maybe a single is buying your first property. Maybe it’s getting a commission on a sale. Maybe it’s finding a deal and partnering on it with someone else with more experience or capital.
