Modular done at scale offers an opportunity to really benefit from the efficiencies of offsite manufacturing by ‘keeping the plant running’. Good article and great to see the continued adoption of modular approaches.

Modular housing development — building homes in off-site factories — has long been a fringe part of the U.S. market. Now, America's biggest apartment owner is trying to change that. Greystar is opening a six-building modular apartment complex, its first U.S. project assembled using this alternative construction method. “We’ve seen modular as a choice. I think we’re past beyond that,” McKinsey senior partner Jose Luis Blanco tells me. “It’s just a pure necessity.” I'm back on the housing beat at WSJ. I worked on a modular hotel job in 1984. Slid the modulas right in and the utilities were connected in the hall way. The units were completely finished and even the beds were made.

And what are they going to charge for these "cargo boxes" designed to look like rental units? $10k/month? Because that's where all this is going. We have LOTS of housing where I am. Vacancy is an issue. Why? NO ONE CAN AFFORD IT. Until you control the rapacious greed of landlords, developers and their monopolies and slap some major rent controls in place, homelessness will continue to skyrocket - for WORKING PEOPLE. I no longer look to the private sector for "innovation" that makes society better. They only thing they do is make a bunch of promises then cry crocodile tears about "cost over-runs" and the inability to get investors to pony up - unless they can reneg on the affordable units or jack up the rents...blah, blah, blah). In the end, their business model is to line their own pockets and traipse over our dead bodies all the way to the bank. Now, if they set in front of municipality that rental rates that will be IN STONE, with NO RENTAL increases allowed beyond a set yearly amount - EVER (that means you can't flip owners or try to evict tenants to "loosen up" the limits") - that's something to consider. But I'm guessing if they can't play their usual tricks, they won't be interested in building them.

Phenomenal. We've had several modular projects use our Nightrunner to standardize the digital deliveries. Looks like we might be able to help others out as well 😎
