“About 40% of the 7 million people who were out of work in October, or roughly 2.84 million people, have been looking for work for more than 15 weeks, an increase of 20% since a year earlier, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. An interesting article highlights how many Americans are struggling to find work while being replaced by AI technology? This shift is one of the key reasons young people are finding it increasingly difficult to secure jobs. At the same time, many companies are laying off senior employees, further reshaping the workforce landscape. Check out this article on how an increasing number of Americans are taking months to find a job, shedding light on the growing challenges in today’s job market. #findingajob #Job2024 #AItechnology #jobhunting #Thejobmarket

Does this ring true? “More Americans are looking to switch jobs than at any point in the past decade. In a cooling job market, that’s a lot easier said than done. White-collar hiring continues to slow, but workers’ restlessness to find new work is intensifying, new Gallup data show. More than half of 20,000 U.S. workers surveyed in November said they were watching for or actively seeking a new job. That’s the largest share since 2015, eclipsing the so-called Great Resignation of 2021 and 2022, when millions of people quit jobs for better ones.” Link: https://lnkd.in/gW2zbvbQ

The Reckoning for Job Hoppers and Ghosters Post-Pandemic The pandemic saw a surge in job ghosting and frequent job switching, but now, many workers are facing the consequences of these actions. Hiring managers are increasingly cautious, scrutinizing short job histories and prioritizing candidates with stable employment records. This shift is a direct response to the challenges posed by high turnover rates and unreliable candidates during the pandemic12. As the job market stabilizes, job seekers must demonstrate commitment and reliability. Transparency about past job changes and a straightforward narrative about career growth can help rebuild trust with potential employers3. #JobMarket #HiringTrends #CareerAdvice #PostPandemic 1: BBC - Why workers and employers are ghosting each other 2: Census.gov - From Great Resignation to Great Reshuffling 3: CNBC - Ghosting is getting more common in the job market

Unpopular opinion: Employers should NOT be concerned about the Gallup numbers on “Employee engagement is tanking” or that “more than half are actively seeking or considering new job opportunities, surpassing the peak of the Great Resignation in 2021 and 2022” In my recent interviews with leading organizations, they have shifted away from measuring employee engagement to employee wellbeing, which is essential to productivity and performance - and profit for the company. If an organization isn’t getting employee WELLBEING right, they won’t get engagement, productivity, performance and other business metrics that matter. Separately, Intent to stay (or quit) is great to measure but ultimately quit rates will tell you the gap between wanting to quit and actually quitting. If you want to proactive about having a THRIVING team as a leader, I’d recommend the following: 1️⃣ Start conducting “stay interviews”. Understand what exactly keeps your employees here and what would make them start looking. 2️⃣ Focus on employee wellbeing - and focus on programs that produce concrete ROI for employee wellbeing- if you don’t currently measure this, it’s time to start because you can’t improve what you don’t measure. 3️⃣ Communicate your plans for the AI era, even if you don’t have everything figured out. Employees are anxious about what AI will mean for their career, and being transparent about future directions and new skills employees need to have (and invest in that re-skilling) will help ease that anxiety greatly. Ps. This research will be published in “The Inclusion Equation - Leveraging Data & AI for Organizational Diversity and Wellbeing” next month! Data With Serena™️
As 2024 comes to a close, American workers are in 'a holding pattern,' stuck in jobs they're unhappy with. According to new research from Gallup, the number of Americans wanting to switch jobs hit a 10-Year High But the current job market makes leaving easier said than done. My latest:

🚀 Let's Talk About the Job Market: It's a Candidate's World! You've likely heard the buzz about an employer-driven market, but let's dive into the numbers. The latest data from the New York State Department of Labor, effective April 1, 2024 demonstrates a different story: 🔍 8,348,300 Vacant Jobs: That's right, over eight million opportunities waiting to be filled in the private sector alone. 👥 418,000 Unemployed Individuals: While this number represents those seeking work in New York State, it's crucial to note the context. 📉 4.3% Unemployment Rate: The lowest we've seen in over 15 years! Now, here's the kicker: with 20 vacancies for every unemployed individual, it's clear we're in a robust candidate-driven market. 📈 What Does This Mean for Employers? It's time to get competitive. Today's talent isn't just looking for a job; they're seeking opportunities that align with their values, aspirations, and lifestyle. Employers need to rethink their talent acquisition strategies: 🔍 Culture Fit: What does your company stand for, and how does it resonate with potential hires? 💰 Compensation: Are you offering competitive salaries and benefits packages that attract top talent? 🤝 Combination Approach: Sometimes, it's the synergy of culture and compensation that seals the deal. In essence, it's about evolution. Employers can't afford to approach the workplace with outdated methods. It's time to adapt, innovate, and elevate our talent acquisition game. I'd love to hear your thoughts. How do you think employers can better position themselves in this candidate-driven market? #JobMarket #TalentAcquisition #RecruitmentStrategy #CandidateExperience
