How can small cities leverage federal funding to better support their residents’ housing, education, workforce and health needs? The National League of Cities Federal Grant Equity Dashboard is helping communities more effectively address these challenges through data-driven decisions. Today is World Listening Day. A day devoted to understanding cultures and societies through the practice of listening and field recording. Although this day, developed by World Listening Project, is also dedicated to the appreciation of sound from nature, we at Park&K would like to focus on the understanding of cultures and society. Specifically, the society of NYC in a post pandemic world. It is with that intention of World Listening Day, that we’d like to bring your attention to the Communities Speak project, which has teamed up with the NYC council in order to rebuild in a post pandemic world. In May 2021, Next Century Cities released Broadband Mapping Across the US: Local, State, and Federal Methods and Contradictions. At that time, many states did not have a broadband office with full-time staff. While some states provided their own funding to develop broadband maps, others relied exclusively on federal data. In the two years since, Congress passed the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. With a wealth of information available from state governments and many new faces in broadband offices across the US, NCC is developing a series of one pagers to help local leaders understand the broadband landscape in their communities. Spotlighting American Community Survey data from the US Census Bureau provides local leaders with a communication tool to illustrate the relationship between poverty and the digital divide. Frank Woodruff and Chanse Sanchez will share and discuss the results of a three year research project led by the National Alliance of Community Economic Development Associations (NACEDA). Grounding Values in Research is a NACEDA project that builds, expands, and shares data for the Community Economic Development (CED) sector. The project began in 2021 with a three-year research study conducted by the Urban Institute on the financial health, programs, production, and services of Community-Based Development Organizations (CBDOs) throughout the United States.   Please join us to hear the latest summary of the first national census of Community-Based Development Organizations since 2005.
