As the end of the year approaches, many companies are looking back on their successes, challenges, and the teamwork that made it all possible. ✨ It’s holiday parties time! ✨ How important is it to show appreciation, recognize employees’ efforts, foster team bonding in a relaxed and joyful atmosphere - especially now that, with remote work, not everyone is always in the office at the same time - and celebrate successes together? 🥂 A Christmas party is more than just a holiday tradition, it’s an opportunity to thank your team, strengthen bonds, and set the tone for the year ahead. I’ve learned over my career that for small and medium-sized businesses, these events can have a disproportionate impact. They’re a reminder that, at the end of the day, people matter most. And if we have the chance to make it an elaborate or extravagant event, why not?! 🎉 After all, investing in people is always the best gift you can give, and closing the year with gratitude and good cheer is a great way! Just a friendly reminder there's less than 3 weeks left in the year. And it's ok to hit pause. I know it's easy to forget. Especially in the midst of year-end deadlines and endless to-do lists ... But this week, I made it a priority to stop and celebrate with my incredible team at our virtual holiday party 🎄 My word for this year was "build." And build we did. We now have a team of 14 incredibly talented individuals across multiple countries (and time zones)! So finding a time for everyone to meet was no small feat, but we made it happen. Shout out to Cocktail Courier for the drink kits and Confetti for organizing an online escape room 🙌🏻 It was a good reminder that, even in a remote environment, building a sense of community matters. Taking a moment to celebrate each other’s hard work and reflect on what we’ve accomplished together isn’t just a “nice to do” - it’s essential. So, to my fellow leaders, here’s your sign: Take a moment. Plan something fun. Celebrate with your team. It’s worth it. Trust me 😉 ----------- How is your team celebrating the holidays this year? As December rolls around, here's my hot tips on making our end-of-year events more inclusive. #KnowledgeNugget 🛑 A lot of events/meetings this time of the year promise conversations and connection. With no detail on how that is happening. Or what the evening will look like? Is there a panel chat? Is there food provided? Should I eat beforehand?  ✨ Instead, do this: Add some details on activities, timings and flow of the celebration day helps people manage their time and energy better. Not to mention, knowing what to expect is a relief for a lot of us, including several neurodivergent brains. 🛑 Consider the environment you are meeting in. Even though the idea of these events is to connect, often they are held in pubs which are a sensory overload for a lot of people (And not inclusive in a variety of ways!). Some neurodivergent brains find this exhausting, some people don't want to be drinking alcohol, some introverted people simply avoid the events because its taxing.  ✨Instead, do this: Consider alternate activities like a potluck, picnic, lawn bowls, trivia etc. They are relatively light activities, can be done outside and you can enjoy the Australian summer! #win 🛑 Do all your corporate events start in the evening? Might there be people on your team who have caring responsibilities or other commitments?  ✨ Instead, do this: Consider at least a portion of the celebration to happen during work hours. It gives people an accessible way to still connect with their teams over meaningful ways. If others want, they can contuinue the evening into a restaurant or elsewhere. Even though my social battery is often depleted this time of the year, I do enjoy the (slight) slowing down of work, the beautiful summer nights and an opportunity to kick back and reflect on the year.
