Mining activities have commenced at our Wallace North deposit, part of the Cloncurry Copper Project (CCP) in Queensland, with clearing and blast hole drilling underway. TNC is on track to become Australia’s next copper producer and critical metals supplier via its restart of CCP. Wallace North is one of four open-pit deposits making up CCP. Wallace North has an Ore Reserve totalling 0.7Mt (Probable) grading 1.01% Cu and 0.46g/t Au for 6.8kt Cu and 10.0koz Au. Managing Director Bevan Jones said: “We have commenced mining operations at Wallace North, which will allow our CCP to restart copper production. This has been our major goal since listing on the ASX. I thank our team for their efforts in moving towards this goal to allow TNC to become Australia’s next copper and critical metals producer. “CCP is estimated to deliver free cash flow of about $200 million at current prices over its 4.6-year initial mine life, based on existing JORC Reserves. Between great projects in Minnesota like Twin Metals Minnesota LLC's proposed Copper-Nickel-Cobalt project, NewRange Copper Nickel's NorthMet project, and Resolution Copper's proposed Copper mine out of Arizona, the U.S. can make huge strides in achieving copper independence. However, this also includes increasing U.S. refining capacities of the critical material. For every pound of Copper mined in the U.S., we should also look to make sure that it's refined in America. Currently, Rio Tinto's Garfield Smelter in Utah and Freeport-McMoRan’s Miami Refinery in Arizona are the only two active copper refineries/smelters in the U.S. Over the past 30 years, 10 copper refineries and smelters have been closed down in the U.S. while China has built 41. Increasing domestic copper refining/smelting capacity in the U.S. would enhance national security, ensure a stable supply of copper, reduce dependence on imports of refined copper from countries like China, promote economic growth, and keep U.S. resources of copper closer to home.

Bloomberg is at it again, this time with speculation that BHP and/or Vale are considering a bid for Teck Resources Limited. This articles comes hot on the heels of their BHP/Lundin Mining Corporation/Filo Corp. scoop two Fridays ago.
