The data on H&S performance from our 2024 Global Health and Safety Survey participants present an ambiguous picture. The report presents findings from engagements with 256 health and safety Function Leaders, who, among other things, identified unique factors that have yielded performance improvements. The most mentioned factors were shifts in senior leadership engagement, improved access to and better quality H&S data, and enhanced H&S standards, management systems, programs, and tools. However, we also examined the 10 most frequently cited key factors the participants identified contributing to performance deterioration. Have you heard? According to ERM’s 2024 Global Health and Safety Survey, 8️⃣7️⃣% of Health and Safety Function Leaders agree that leadership engagement on #healthandsafety is the most effective means of improving health and safety performance. What’s your engagement strategy? What ever your engagement strategy is, be consistent and regularly engage. #leadership #engage #culture #people #safety #sustainability
Eighty-seven percent of Health and Safety Function Leaders agree that leadership engagement on H&S is the most effective means of improving health and safety performance, according to our 2024 Global Health and Safety Survey. An impressive 85% of organizations are gearing up to implement new measures to tap into this powerful resource to improve the health, safety, and well-being of people at work in their organizations. Training for organizational leaders tops the list of the initiatives that organizations will adopt, according to participants in the ERM 2024 Global Health and Safety Survey. While each organization faces unique challenges, the data broadly suggests that investments in leadership capability building should focus on enhancing the quality rather than the quantity of engagements. Focusing on the impact of leaders' engagements will ensure leaders can make a difference. In a dynamic landscape where turnover in the workforce, hybrid work, flexible working arrangements, and gig working are the new normal, in-person interactions between leaders and their teams are becoming scarcer, and so is the need for increasing the impact delivered when leaders do get the opportunity to engage with their teams. In our recent report digging into the employee perspective of safety climate, we discovered... 👷♂️ Frontline workers perceive safety more negatively across the physical, social and psychological experiences of safety than supervisors, middle managers and executive leaders. 👉 This indicates that frontline workers have a different experience of safety to those in leadership roles. This demonstrates why it’s so important for businesses to prioritise organisation-wide diagnostics when they gather employee feedback. Often, leaders claim to understand how employees perceive safety, yet these results indicate that overall, leaders have significantly more positive perceptions of their organisations’ safety climate. If you'd like to learn more about this discovery and how leaders can bridge the gap, you can download our report or join Dr Brett Solomon in the webinar he's presenting on this topic next week. 🧑💻 Download the report: https://lnkd.in/gDBjBeZh 🧑🏫 Register for the webinar: https://lnkd.in/g9Reaekd #Webinar #LeadershipMatters #HealthAndSafety

Ensuring high-quality leader engagement at HS is crucial for driving organizational impact and enhancing both HS performance and the overall safety culture. In an era marked by shifting work dynamics such as turnover, hybrid models, flexible schedules, and gig employment, face-to-face interactions between leaders and their teams are declining. Therefore, it becomes essential to optimize the influence of these engagements whenever leaders do connect with their teams. Check below the #ERM 9 measures to improve quality of leaders engagement! #safety #leadership #safetycoaching #engagement #safetyculture

Good leadership of health & safety focuses on what really matters – risks, relationships and resourcing. Consider the following: · Are you confident you are controlling your risks effectively? · Are you confident the relationships in your workplace support good health & safety? Are they all supportive – between management & workers, between clients & contractors? · Are you confident the resourcing of your people, processes and plant is adequate to control your risks? As a health & safety leader – what you think, say & do drives the culture, and the tone of the culture will be essential to health & safety success! -Francois Barton #leadership #psychologicalsafety
