📢 Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic funded #MINDSETproject partners have been working on the Mission Oriented Innovation in the NPA Area Assessment report over the past few months. This document reviews the mission-oriented innovation (#MOI) phenomenon and its state-of-the-art in the Northern Periphery and Arctic (NPA) area. The report focuses on two main aspects: 1️⃣ Understanding MOI: Analysing different approaches to identify those most suitable for the challenges in NPA regions. 2️⃣ Revision of Existing MOI Experiences: Examining MOI experiences at national and regional levels, covering both partner countries and other NPA member states. Curious about the current state of mission-oriented innovation in the NPA area? Embracing complexity, nurturing relationships and catalyzing collaborative learning, for social change
Complexity, systems and portfolios for innovation and learning https://lnkd.in/eNtnTtxw I was recently asked to provide some examples of organizations that are taking a portfolio approach to engaging with complex and systemic social challenges, in the global development space. I'm particularly interested in approaches that see the elements in the portfolio as opportunities to explore, experiment and learn about the parts of interlinked systems, in interconnected ways, rather than portfolios that are just aggregated collections of projects. As a first step to providing some examples, I've pulled together the things I've read/watched over the last few years that are about this sort of approach to portfolios. It includes links to and summaries of some great pieces from colleagues including Giulio Quaggiotto, Andrea Bina, Søren Vester Haldrup, Sam Rye, Diastika Rahwidiati, Milica Begovic, PhD, Mariela Atanassova, Annemarie Poorterman and Tina M Saeteraas Stoum. Sharing in case useful for other folks exploring the value, and challenges, of portfolio approaches. If you're interested in seeing more - my notes and highlights on some of the articles for instance - give me a shout. In terms of organisations and initiatives that are at the leading edge of such approaches UNDP (both the Strategic Innovation Unit and the Accelerator Labs), CHÔRA Foundation, Climate-KIC, Systems Innovation, Centre for Public Impact, the TransCap Initiative, Sida's Systems Innovation and Learning Partnership, and a number of UK Government FCDO offices are on my radar. That clearly reflects where I'm sat, professionally and geographically (in the UK, at the seaside). If you have suggestions of other organisations with interesting experience, or other useful pieces that I have missed, I'd be glad to hear of them, and will be happy to update and re-share my summary of resources. #complexity #systemsthinking #portfolios

🌍 Navigating Challenges, Building Tomorrow 🚀 Many consider that Limited funding, infrastructure gaps, and funding disparities have posed hurdles on the path of Research & Development. But the real challenge is in policies at grassroot level which were seldom focused on balancing research and development. Research ending in any of the communication platforms alone is the doomsday scenario for the development of a society. To overcome this there is a need to Implement strategies to realize the importance of translating research findings into practical applications or innovations. Institutions with a holistic approach may integrate both components to foster a comprehensive research ecosystem that not only generates new knowledge but also seeks to apply and implement that knowledge for broader societal impact. Recognizing challenges is the first step to success 🌐💪 Accepting and Evolving is the next🎯 #ResearchChallenges #Innovation #GlobalCollaboration Remember, success in research is often a combination of perseverance, collaboration, and strategic decision-making. Good luck on your research & development journey! 🚀🔬

📣 The importance of dissemination activities in 🇪🇺 European projects. In European initiatives, the concept of "dissemination" refers to the range of activities and approaches employed to spread information about the project's outcomes, with the goal of maximizing its influence on individuals, organizations, and communities. This is crucial as it enables the effective transfer and utilization of the project's results by a broader audience. Hence, this project endeavor demands specific focus both during the formulation stage of the project proposal and throughout its execution. The terms "dissemination" and "communication" are often used interchangeably, but it is important to distinguish between the two. When we refer to dissemination, we are talking about the transfer of results in order to promote their practical use, including economic exploitation. The target audience for dissemination activities is usually specialized individuals in a specific field, such as the scientific community or legislators. On the other hand, communication involves activities that provide information and promote the project in order to increase its visibility. The target audience for communication activities is more general, including the public opinion and the media. Therefore, it may be more effective to develop a comprehensive strategic framework that encompasses both dissemination and communication activities. This approach allows us to maximize the use of available resources and achieve the desired outcomes. 🔷 Read on for further details on how to develop a comprehensive strategic framework that encompasses both dissemination and communication activities here 👇 https://lnkd.in/d8pNp5vy #dissemination #communication #strategies #plans #projects #European #researchers #SMEs #entrepreneurs #entrepreneurship #coordinators #scientists #innovators #marketing #publishing #Horizon2020 #events #web #workshops #media #impact

An excellent article highlighting the importance of (Scientific) Coordinators’ soft skills in achieving project success. We are privileged to be supporting scientists at #INRAE, where there is a real culture of trust and collaboration. At #inraetransfert we use collective intelligence methods as part of our project management services enabling full engagement of the consortium partners which as the #VTT study concludes is just as essential as the Coordinators skills for ensuring an “active approach” and project success. #inraetransfert #euproject #collectiveintelligence https://lnkd.in/d5VUVzJ4

I'm ecstatic to tell you about an amazing Saturday workshop focused on problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking, put together by Mbasiafo . The session featured by Maazu Bayuoni as the speaker. As I delved into the intersection of innovation, I discovered that creativity is the catalyst for generating ideas, while critical thinking refines and sharpens those ideas into viable solutions. Finally, problem-solving is the engine that drives these solutions from conception to reality.✨ From engaging in the process of generating groundbreaking ideas to analyzing intricate problems, every instance was an exploration towards discovering and unleashing my complete capabilities. Instead of simply thinking beyond conventional boundaries, reimagine and reconstruct the very framework itself. #Creativity #Criticalthinking #Problemsolving #Mbasiafo #E4C

Have you seen the ESIL article on Science|Business? 👀 ESIL, an EU-funded project, led by Business Angels Europe, META Group, and EuroQuity - Bpifrance, aims to increase the number of angel investors in Eastern Europe. We offer two-day training sessions in Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, Czechia, Croatia, and Hungary to train around 20 new angel investors per country. This initiative is crucial, as only €395.9 million of the $7.3 billion in European angel investments in 2023 went to Eastern Europe. With more angel investors, start-ups in these regions can grow and innovate better. **New projects between industry and research are essential!** They not only promote innovative solutions and enable the application of scientific knowledge in practice, but also help overcome the "everyday" challenges of the industry. Both bilateral projects and third-party funded projects play a crucial role in this. Bilateral projects offer the opportunity to specifically address the needs and challenges of industrial partners, while third-party funded projects provide a broader basis for the financing and execution of research activities. Both forms of collaboration open new horizons for **both** partners and offer added value. Yesterday's seminar "Acquisition of Industrial Projects" provided valuable insights into needs-based project initiation. I look forward to applying what I have learned in future project initiations and hope for exciting collaborations in cooperation with my colleagues, including those from other research groups, and the industry! Let’s engage in dialogue and strengthen the economy together! #Research #IndustryProjects #Collaboration
