Lessons from Roger Federer After hearing Roger Federer's interview, I am once again convinced of a crucial principle that applies not only in tennis but also in business. «When you play a point, it's the most important thing in the world. Once the rally is behind you, it's behind you.» The same principle applies in business. Every day we face challenges. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes we don't. What defines us is how we respond to these challenges and continue to move forward. Roger Federer has played 1526 matches, winning 80% of them. However, in each match, he wins only 54% of the points. Even top tennis players win just a little more than half of the points. At the top, the best aren't there because they win every point, but because they've learned how to handle losses when they occur. Being a champion is all about mindset.

One of the greatest sportsman of all time Tennis Legend Roger Federer has given an awe inspiring speech at Dartmouth College. He connected Tennis with Life and shared life lessons on his glittering career. Few takeaways: 1) Effortless is a Myth. One has to work extremely hard to make it look easy. Federer said he didnt get where he did based on pure talent alone. He got there by trying to outwork his opponents. 2) Belief in one self has to be earned. 3) Most of times, it is not about having an inherent gift, but is about having grit. 4) Believing in a process is also a talent. 5) You can work harder than you possibly thought you could and still lose. (Referring to his epic final match with Rafa in the Wimbledon 2008) 6) Whatever game you play in life, your are gonna lose some points. It is important to move on and focus on the next point in the game just like tennis rather than thinking about the lost point & creating self doubt. 7) The best in the game are not the best because they win every point, but because they know they are going to loose again and again and have learnt to deal with it.
