Did you know that vultures are the ONLY extant vertebrate obligate scavengers? They have evolved behavioural adaptations to locate scarce and unpredictable food resources. They are one of the most threatened groups of animals worldwide. Between 1987 and 2017, a period spanning three-decades, there have been 97 telemetry studies with the majority of studies occurring in the last decade. The draft Public Lands Rule, a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make land and water conservation, tribal stewardship, and wildlife a priority! “In March, BLM proposed a draft rule aimed at helping safeguard the health of our public lands for current and future generations. In our exploration of the KAZA TFCA, we scrutinized its status as a unique landscape abundant in wildlife resources. However, we questioned whether it possesses a robust legal framework capable of safeguarding these resources from myriad threats. Together with Shingi Chakombera and Hazel Tariro Chimbiro, we delved into the KAZA synopsis, specifically examining its legal framework, as well as the challenges and opportunities inherent in advancing wildlife conservation within this expansive landscape.
