Over the past four months since joining the team, we’ve made significant progress on the SHDF programme in Gloucestershire, including improvements in rural areas, many of which are not connected to mains gas. With 250 homes in Wave 2 underway and several completed, we are on track to meet EPC targets. Key measures such as air source heat pumps, insulation (external, cavity, and loft), solar panels, MEVs, and window replacements have been successfully installed to improve energy efficiency and sustainability. As we prepare for Wave 3, we are refining our processes, particularly around customer engagement, to minimise disruption. We are working closely with contractors to prioritise customer satisfaction and ensure a "right first time" approach. Feedback from completed homes has been positive, with many customers reporting more consistent heating, warmer temperatures, and reduced damp and mould, leading to better living conditions. On August 27, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) released a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for non-State applicants as part of the larger Low-Carbon Transportation Materials (LCTM) Grants Program. The Reduced Carbon Consortium – developed to assist all eligible entities with the LCTM application process – has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting non-State organizations as they navigate the application process for this program. The LCTM grant program funds the use of construction materials that have substantially lower levels of greenhouse gas emissions and concrete is one of the eligible materials. This recent NOFO will award up to $800 million in LCTM funding. The RC3 is here to help ensure that sustainability and resiliency efforts can be maximized—both with agencies and on the grade. Following a Freedom of Information request onto DEFRA I was pointed toward the Department for Energy Secuirty and Net Zero. Simple question - “I am trying to establish the emission levels of cold store facilities vs non cold store facilities in the UK. With the definition of emissions being diesel exhaust emission. (You have a list of cold stores on the DEFRA CCA Cold store program.) It would be great to see it over a range of years i.e the last 5 if possible.” Answer - They do not record that data. But legally all sites that emit diesel emissions must under HSE legislation record live emission levels and the CCA is about reducing energy and this emissions. Time for a rethink on some areas. Manufactiuring and installing Steam Generators for the Bruce B site, BWXT and Bruce Power are creating hundreds of good paying jobs, high skilled and high technology manufacturing positions within the USW and Building Trades to manufacture and install the steam generators for the Bruce B site. These are manufactured in Cambridge and Owen Sound, and installed at the Bruce site. Unlike other technologies - like wind and solar where 7 out of 10 or more are manufactured in China - these products are made right here in Canada, creating a clean energy solution made with clean energy. Ontario’s grid is highly decarbonized, where as China’s grid is predominantly coal based. Let’s encourage our Federal government to ensure In vestment Tax Credits go to Canada and Canadian manufacturing and trades. It’s simple math, investing in Canada creates jobs and economic well being here.
