Since January 2024, the European Sky Multilink ATN (#ESMA) started its activities. #ESMA is a Digital Sky Demonstrator (DSD) that will be developed for the European Commission, co-funded by CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency and supported by SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking. With the main objective of developing the basis to the future ATN multilink communication concept, this project will directly tackle the L band European VDL congestion while contributing to the digitalization of European Skies. Leaded by ESSP SAS, the project will gather key stakeholders coming from the whole spectrum of our industry. From #ANSPs to #Airlines, find here a list of the different partners of the project: ENAIRE, NATS, skyguide, DSNA (Direction Generale de l'Aviation Civile), SITA, Airtel ATN, Frequentis, OBIZCO, FranklinCovey, Transavia, Air France, Airbus and Boeing. ROMATSA and Indra recently signed a contract to enhance the current #ATM2015+ System with the capability to process flight plans in the #FIXM format using the FF-ICE protocol. This extended functionality complements the traditional exchange of #flightplan information with additional details on actual aircraft data and desired trajectory, directly provided by the #airlines. The FF-ICE implementation in ROMATSA will include use cases that will benefit #airspaceusers and improve #capacity and #environmental #performance. ROMATSA will be the pioneering ANSP in Europe in implementing this protocol, allowing them to demonstrate compliance with #CP1Regulation of the European Commission, which mandates enabling this capability in #ATMSystems by no later than December 31, 2025. The #collaborative groundwork with SESAR Deployment Manager and EUROCONTROL #NetworkManager during the last months has been a cornerstone to ensure this development has the level of maturity and agreement right from the start. This week, at the Airspace World 2024 exhibition, Simona Pierattelli, #FCDI Project Coordinator, chaired the panel titled “How LDACS can drive the digital transformation of air traffic management”, together with Rohde & Schwarz, ENAIRE, Air France and DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH. The panel put together representatives from ANSPs, airlines, service providers and industry to highlight the benefits of the L-band Digital Aeronautical Communications System (#LDACS) datalink and discuss the next steps for its implementation in operational #AirTrafficManagement (#ATM) systems. The adoption of the LDACS technology, one of the key solutions of the FCDI project, will enable high throughput terrestrial datalink, which will allow to overcome the significant bottleneck in air-ground connectivity, currently a big limitation for the digitalisation of air traffic management. The panel was also an opportunity to distribute the first version of the white paper “The LDACS air-ground datalink”, prepared with contributions from industries, ANSPs and airlines for the Future Communication Infrastructure (FCI). #AirSpaceWorld SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking

Time goes on fast! As soon as the group of air traffic controllers returned from the HMI & Supervisor workshop, it is time to reinforce the UkSATSE team by involving more experts for the preps to the real-time simulation. As part of the Flight Centric ATC project, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft-und Raumfahrt e.V. and Ukrainain State Air Traffic Services Enterprise are planning to carry out a real-time simulation for the upper Ukrainian airspace using the DLRs TrafficSim platform in November 2024.
