2023 was a strong year for #Berlin's congress scene! 📈 🚀 + 30% business events 🚀 + 29% event participants In 2023, Berlin hosted 70,535 business events with 7.6 million participants from around the globe. This was indicated by the event and #CongressStatistics published today by the Berlin Convention Office of visitBerlin. The market for #Conferences, #Meetings, and #Congresses remains a significant #economic factor for the capital. Excitingly, the share of international B2B events increased by 15.7%, way above Germany's 4.7% average. Plus, 22.1% of business event attendees were international – a testament to Berlin's global appeal! “With these figures, Berlin's convention business is returning to success”, says Burkhard Kieker, spokesperson for visitBerlin’s management. “The coronavirus dent has been completely ironed out. The capital city's convention industry is once again playing in the premier league. Berlin is defying the current geopolitical challenges. Virtual conferences are no longer a problem.” The Berlin Senate’s Restart Program played a major role in the successful #Restart of the congress business after the pandemic. Measures include the #CongressFund, which provides financial support to event organizers from the Senatsverwaltung für Wirtschaft, Energie und Betriebe. With 𝟳𝟳,𝟬𝟰𝟭 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟱.𝟰𝟲 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 last year, Frankfurt remains a top international destination for business events, ranking among the Top 3 most popular cities in Germany. 🏙️ 79% of events were business-related, and the city attracted a high percentage of international attendees (20.2% for business events). Vienna has highlighted itself as a premier conference destination, hosting a #record 6,500 congresses and corporate events in 2023, a 49% increase over the previous year and 18% more than the record-setting year of 2019. With these events resulting in 1,591,000 overnight stays — a 34% increase from 2022 — Vienna's success in revitalising its conference sector post-pandemic is evident.   In a significant move demonstrating the commitment to #sustainability and industry support, the Stadt Wien has continued the extension of the #ViennaMeetingFund with an additional €4 million investment for the period 2025-2028.   From 2025, the maximum funding from the Vienna Meeting Fund of 60,000 euros available per event, will require the event to be held as a #GreenMeeting or #EcoEvent. The Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) has reported record revenue of £12.8 million for the year to 31st December 2023 [2022: £11.8m], along with a record profit of £2.6 million [2022: £699,000]. EICC CEO Marshall C. Dallas Dallas said: “We kept our sales team intact throughout the pandemic, which in retrospect was integral to our revenue performance last year because we were able to hit the ground running post-pandemic.”  The economic impact figure, which relates to the direct benefit of conferences and events taking place at the EICC to Edinburgh and the surrounding region, totalled £58 million [2022: £51.9m].  Total economic impact since the EICC opened its doors in 1995 is now at approximately £850 million. The venue hosted over 132,000 delegates and visitors during the year [2022: 72,000], with eighteen international associations holding major conferences at the EICC.  Global Equity Organisation’s 24th annual conference in April, the 15th World Congress on Endometriosis in May, and HYDRO 2023 in October were among international association conferences held at the venue last year.  [Insider.co.uk].
