It’s time for another ESP employee spotlight, and today, we are taking a moment to highlight a dedicated member of our team, Derek Rhoten! Derek is a Pavement Collection Technician based out of our Fort Mill, SC office. After earning his degree in Geography, Derek joined ESP in 2020. Since that time, he has been busy collecting over 3,200 pavement miles! His data collection has taken him all over the US and Canada, including Ontario, Colorado, Texas, North and South Carolina, Kansas, Arizona, Georgia, California, South Dakota, and British Columbia. Derek finds his job fulfilling and enjoys that it keeps him active and outdoors most of the year. He says it’s awesome to be able to travel and see so much, knowing that there are few other careers that make that possible. We’re so grateful to have Derek as part of the ESP team! #surveying #geospatial #mapping

Without naming names, I would like to hear from the population hiring surveyors. Has anyone ever had a land survey like this car? Their survey is figuratively missing key details, such as headlights, held together by tie-downs with weird attachments that no one understands why they are there. It had the potential to be excellent, but I settled for the immediate solution. Please let me know your stories! I am sure we all could learn from them. #landsurvey #surveyors #surveying #surveyorlife #survey #landsurveying #mapping #geomatics #growningtogether #lifelessons #missedopportunity #corvette

Running level loops is one of those things that is occurring less frequently due to the over reliance on GPS, but the accuracy and confidence in elevations produced from a level loop is unmatched. #AmericanMeridian #surveyorlife #landsurveying #landsurveyor #surveyor #surveyinglife #surveyingtheworld #surveyengineering #surveyors #landsurveying #landsurvey #landsurveyorlife #landsurveyors #surveyorlife #realsurveyors #surveyworld #surveying #surveyinglife #landsurveyors

Many times I am asked "What do you do for a living" or "How do you go about figuring out [resolving] a property [boundary lines]". I don't know about the rest of you, but how do you start to explain the abstract art of lines and circles that go on in your head when completing a boundary resolution? I can't be the only one who sees the world in Survey Binary Code, am I? #survey #surveying #surveyor #surveylife #getkidintosurvey #boundary #resolution #boundaryresolution #propertylines #mathmatics #womenwhosurvey 1 Alliance Geomatics Atlas West Coast - Get Kids Into Survey

Happy National Surveyors Week! This week, we will celebrate our amazing team and highlight just some of the work they perform day in and day out! First up is Right of Way (ROW) Control Surveys; these surveys consist of a boundary survey that defines the limits of ownership for a particular ROW and adjoining properties. This work is performed by extensive field recovery of controlling land corners and monumentation which provides a certified map that supports future ROW mapping functions. The maps are drafted to clearly define potential ROW to be acquired and allow for the surveyor to draft legal descriptions to support land acquisition and appraisal. AIM employs some of the newest and latest technologies in GNSS/GPS systems to measure land corners and features related to ROW; yet sometimes, only the most fundamental of tools, such as a shovel, measuring tape, and extensive research, can be used to retrace, recover, or reset key land corners. #nationalsurveyorsweek #NSW #survey #surveying #rightofway #controlsurvey #nationalsocietyofprofessionalsurveyors #NSPS #AIMhigher
