🎮 A New Era in Esports: Reflecting on the IESF-GEF Collaboration. Last week, I had the privilege of witnessing a groundbreaking moment in the world of esports – the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Global Esports Federation (GEF) and the International Esports Federation (IESF). This historic event took place at the Riyadh 2023 Global Esports Games and marked the start of a promising new chapter for our industry. As someone deeply invested in the growth and development of esports, I was thrilled to be part of both the announcement at the #WESummit in Korea (Special thanks to Boban Totovski Toto for taking me there) and the official signing ceremony in Riyadh (Special thanks to Paul J. Foster for the invite). It was inspiring to see industry leaders like HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan (President of IESF and VP of GEF) and Chris Chan (President of GEF) come together, demonstrating a strong commitment to nurturing talent, enhancing infrastructure, and elevating the world of esports. This partnership signifies more than just an agreement; it represents a unified vision for the future of esports. We're looking at a future where international cooperation paves the way for remarkable advancements and inclusive growth across the globe. 🌍 What does this mean for us in the esports community? It's an opportunity to be part of a more connected, dynamic, and innovative ecosystem for the Federations World. This collaboration opens doors for new initiatives, cross-cultural exchanges, and a strengthened global network that benefits everyone involved – from players and organizers to fans and stakeholders. 🤔 My takeaway from these events? We are standing at the threshold of an evolutionary leap in esports. The potential for positive impact is immense, and I am excited to contribute to this journey. Let's embrace this new phase with anticipation and ambition. I'd love to hear your thoughts on how this collaboration will shape the future of esports. PGL has announced its plans for Dota 2 esports tournaments over the next few years, which includes a sizable investment into the ecosystem. PGL states it has planned at least 8 large scale LAN tournaments between 2024 and 2026, each with a $1M prize pool. The company will host 2 events in 2024 with the first taking place in Bucharest, Romania in May of this year. There will be 3 tournaments in 2025 and 2025, with each taking place around March, April, and November timeframe (qualifiers will be in January, March, and September). There may potentially be even more Dota 2 events over the next few years as well, with PGL hosting the most notable Dota 2 event The International in recent years, along with various Majors and Minors for the game. PGL is one of the big players in the esports tournament organizer space, with BLAST and ESL FACEIT Group - EFG also hosting notable events for other esports. The Esports World Cup Foundation announced that Overwatch 2 will become an esport title in the Esports World Cup competition in July. The new Overwatch Champions Series that started just a few days ago will serve as an opportunity to qualify for the Esports World Cup. While not much else has been revealed, this move makes sense given both the Esports World Cup Foundation and ESL FACEIT Group - EFG, who is overseeing esports for Overwatch 2, are owned by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. With many other mobile games getting prize pools of $2M-$3M, it remains to be seen what Overwatch 2 may get as far as a prize pool goes. What’ll also be interesting to see is the viewership of these various esports events both in-person and online, given the amount of investment put into each title by the Esports World Cup. Will have to see if the investment pays off and how it may compare to other popular esports events of the past. Follow #MoreMark for #Business content in #Gaming, #Esports, and #Creators!

Noticing a huge uproar in the esports industry coming up. Be it bear or bull, gaming has been a constant. Of course funding is something that every organisation/syndicate struggles with if bootstrapped. But this really brings back a feeling of nostalgia during WCG times. With multiple esports titles coming up as official games. Are we saturating the number of tournaments around the year? Ranging from mlbb, LOL, Pokémon unite, Dota 2, Valorant, etc etc. What if we pulled our “A game resources” together, we could really save time, resources, and finances maybe? Thoughts? 🤔 #esports #events #cybergames #gaming #conference

GeoGuessr, the geography focused guessing game, has recently been gaining more traction from its GeoGuessr World Cup 2024 esports event. Purely off of viewership numbers, the GeoGuessr World Cup saw its previous peak viewership increase from 71K in 2023 to nearly 270K in 2024, marking a 270%+ increase in peak viewership year over year. Additionally, average viewership increased from 25K to 60K, with hours watched increasing from 430K to 1.5 million this year. This means that the GeoGuessr World Cup 2024 saw more viewership than some League of Legends, Call of Duty, and Halo esports tournaments, despite not necessarily being top of mind as a prominent esport. The tournament itself saw a ~$55K prize pool with French player Mathieu "Blinky" Huet winning the tournament overall and taking home the $25K grand prize. On top of the GeoGuessr World Cup 2024 doing well within its community, additional mainstream outlets like CBS Mornings, PBS News, Tubefilter, and others have recently covered the rise of GeoGuessr, along with its notable community, creators, and associated figures. GeoGuessr was co-founded by Daniel Antell and Anton Wallén back in 2013 - curious to see how it will take off even further as time goes on.
