Senior Researcher, LCEL | Counsel, Space Law and Regulation, WOUD Law | Managing Editor, Journal of World Investment & Trade | Of Counsel, Özgür Ünüvar Bakiler | Legal Advisor, Moon Village Association
Looking forward to participating in the Space Resources Week 2024 (#SpaceResWeek 2024) between 25 and 27 March 2024 as a speaker at the panel "Legal and Regulatory Session: Towards the Future International Framework" to talk about regulating outer space as 'environment' and its implications for private actors. It is an honour to be a part of an incredible panel, expertly organized (and to be moderated) by the inimitable Dovile Matuleviciute of the Luxembourg Space Agency. Our panel description is as follows: "There is a need for national legal as well as international frameworks to regulate space resources activities involving a number of stakeholders which would promote peaceful, sustainable and responsible activities. The speakers will explore the ways for the better future international framework, already existing contributions, and the aspects that states shall consider when designing such framework. A multi-stakeholder composition of the session allows for a truly inclusive, diverse, and multilateral dialogue around the topic." #SpaceResWeek is organised by the European Space Resources Innovation Centre (ESRIC), in collaboration with the European Space Agency - ESA, the Luxembourg Space Agency, and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST). It has become the event of reference for the space resources community since its inauguration in 2018. A preliminary programme is available, and it is possible to participate in-person or online. Recently, this course drew my attention because of the relevant research area that I am currently engaged in. A noteworthy and useful aspect, which in my opinion demonstrates the value of a course, is the diversity it offers. The participants are not just passive attendees based on their own scientific and research priorities. Instead, it is the evaluation of an individual's knowledge and the exams at the end of each session that determine the level you are at and precisely where you stand on this path after completing the course. 【SIFA publishes first White Paper】 SIFA (Space Industry Federation for Asia Pacific), a discussion group that was launched last year and consists of space industry leaders from the Asia-Pacific region (APAC) held its 3rd Roundtable on March 27th. This roundtable brought together members from Australia, New Zealand, India, the Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom to share the results of activities at the 29th Asia-Pacific Regional Space Agency Forum (APRSAF-29) and also to discuss future activity plans for 2024. We also conducted a final review of SIFA's first white paper, "APAC Space Industry - Current Status & Common Challenges." This report provides an overview of the space industry in the APAC region and summarizes common challenges. Please download and take a look at the report! 【Download URL】https://lnkd.in/dFQgNsMG We would greatly appreciate it if you could complete the following survey so that we can use your feedback in our future SIFA initiatives and provide you with an improved report. https://lnkd.in/ddPUKZfx

🔴 NEW PUBLICATION 🔴 🔎 The European Commission is currently reflecting on the elaboration of a dedicated Space Research & Innovation (R&I) Strategy at European Union level. An R&I Strategy is one of the key pillars of a much-needed Technology Strategy, itself part of a future European-wide Industrial Strategy for #Space. 💡 In this context, the objective for the European space industry is that this R&I Strategy contributes to ensure the on-time #availability of needed/advanced #technologies – with the appropriate #maturity and #performance, the required level of non-dependence, and at #competitive conditions – for risk mitigated implementation in the European #institutional programmes, and in the #commercial programmes where Industry faces an increasingly harsh competition. 📡 🚀 🛰️ The European space industry, represented by ASD-Eurospace, wishes to share its vision on the future of EU Space R&I in its Initial Guidance Paper "(Starting to) pave the way for the future of EU Space R&I". Have a look at our Position Paper on our website and don't hesitate to share your thoughts with us below 👇 https://lnkd.in/gGwEBPc4
