At Esse Health, “We Want You Well” isn’t just a slogan – it’s a part of our culture and way of life. We’re excited to highlight some of the many different ways Esse Health team members are “Doing Well” - improving their well-being and making an effort to live healthier lives in fun and unique ways! Dr. Patricia Amato, a pediatrician at Esse Health Pediatric & Adolescent Medicine at Watson Road, has been practicing for nearly 40 years. She started gardening, with her two sisters, at a local library when she was in kindergarten. Her favorite vegetables as a child were green beans, carrots, and sweet corn. She continued to garden through 8th grade and then again in medical school, because it was basically located in a cornfield! Any medical student could get a plot of land to garden on. Now, many years later, she has a garden bigger and better than ever! Gardening is a healthy activity for children and adults. The food that is harvested is free of preservatives and pesticides. Plus, when children are involved in the process of growing your own food, they are more likely to try it. Sharing the harvest is also a favorite activity of Dr. Amato’s. She always gets smiles and many words of thanks when she gives away the bounty. What an easy way to teach sharing and kindness to your children and grandchildren! In all the doom & gloom we read about ageing and aged care, this was an inspiring article about a woman who loved her grandfather and aimed to make a difference in aged care. Loneliness and loss of identify is a problem that can be solved. She is now an author - and her novel The Borrowed life of Frederick Fife is now next on my reading list. #agedcare #readinglist #agedcareadvice

#PolicyUpdate! The Physicians Committee hosted an event at the New York State Capitol this week showcasing the need to pass legislation (S996 /A3708) that would ensure students in New York have access to plant-based school meals. Our member physicians joined the bill's sponsors, Sen. Brad Holyman-Sigal and Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar, to highlight the need for the bill and showcase many tasty and healthy plant-based foods. Diet-related diseases are on the rise in New York. Doctors are diagnosing an increasing number of adults, teenagers, and children with type 2 diabetes, formerly known as adult-onset diabetes, with Black and Hispanic youth being impacted at larger rates than their white peers. School meals are a critical opportunity to offer students good nutrition and to encourage lifelong healthy eating habits. By empowering families and their children in New York, this legislation can help children who wish to have healthier food habits, which will help save lives and reduce health care costs to families and to the state now and in the future. Besides improving health, plant-based school meals can increase equity, are better for animals and the planet, and can lower food costs for schools. The time is now for the New York Legislature to advance S996 /A3708. https://lnkd.in/gXZJy46t

Here is Blair, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Cellementals, in Grade 5. She writes in the latest blog post: "When I worked as a direct care RN on a critical care pediatric unit, what gave me the most peace of mind, was not planning for best outcomes, but for worst ones and then thinking how to prevent them. This way of inverted thinking has broad application including for the leveraging of personal health. Instead of considering how to optimize health, consider how to destroy it and then avoid those things. For me, using this tactic is not only commonsensical, but it’s more knowable and thus, more doable." Read more here: cellementals.com/blog #upsidedown #prevention

https://lnkd.in/gav_Q3nq In continuation with the "monsoon tips for a healthy community" post we did , we are happy to share this experimental research article on what drives - poor quality of care for child diarrhoea. If you think it is low stocks of ORS, or lack of financial incentives - we urge you to re-think. It has more to do with provider's percption of patient preferences. This brings us back to one of the corner stone elements of behaviour change - communication, awareness, emphasis and supporting environments. Naandi Water - too joined the #stopdiarrhea campaign of the nation. We tried to increase awareness on the need for a simple solution like ORS and Zinc Link to our last post: https://lnkd.in/gWRFn5ns #communityhealth #safewater #monsoontips

We work with kids dealing with various lifestyle diseases, some needing disease management and others focused on prevention. My 13 years of experience with children from different nationalities, backgrounds and health cases, have helped me understand the fundamentals 🔑 needed to nurture children into healthy, happy, and emotionally balanced individuals.👧🧒👦 🔍 There’s no single “right way,” but through my work, I’ve gathered valuable insights that blend science and common sense, plus the wisdom handed down by our ancestors.☝️ 🌍 In a world that’s moving so fast, with fakeness often overshadowing realness, and kids having access to more than what’s appropriate for their age, it’s crucial to guide them away from the mistakes we’ve made or seen others make. We need to learn from others’ mistakes too. 👍👍As parents and caretakers, it’s our responsibility. We can’t leave everything to schools and teachers—and definitely not to a nanny. It all starts with what they learn at home 🏡 🌱 Give them these FREE basics, and watch them evolve and blossom. 🌹 🎉 We're thrilled to announce Luke Coutinho's next masterclass, designed especially for kids! While parents are welcome to join, this session is all about the children. 📚 We’ll explore how to approach health and wellness in the simplest way, without complications, through relatable examples while also building creative imagination. This won’t be a typical lecture—it will be fun, light-hearted, and packed with valuable knowledge.💫 📅 We’ve scheduled it over the weekend so more children can join. 🌈 Building Holistic Health and Life: An Exclusive Masterclass for Kids on June 29th at 11 AM IST 🗓️ Here's the link you need to click to book a seat. 🏷️https://lnkd.in/d8PMj6JB 👋 See you then! . . . #masterclass #holistichealth #kids #children #kidshealth #balancedhealth #parenting #holisticparenting #integrativemedicine #thenewreligionlifestyle #lukecoutinho
