I recently read this NAIS blog entry over the purpose of school as the preservation of democracy, highlighting the independent school system as having the freedom and the responsibility to fulfill such purpose. Spencer quotes authors I cherish as an educator from Dewey to Mann to Haidt. In his article, he states the importance of creating a civic discourse, one that carries understanding of alternative viewpoints, and the necessity of driving conversation to collective action extending the lens of diversity to a lens of belonging.
