President and Founder at Grey Matter Marketing, Inc., a Healthcare Marketing Company; MM&M Agency Entrepreneur of the Year
Are you interested in this Jedi mind trick to strategically carve out a unique space in the minds of your audience and ignite demand? It’s one of the most commonly overlooked elements that can drive commercial success in the life sciences industry. Commercial success—and therefore reliable revenue and market cap growth—relies on more than technology and clinical data. I’m talking about the strategic use of language to redefine markets, reshape perceptions, and drive unparalleled commercial growth. Yes, the words you choose wield tremendous influence over how your products and services are perceived and valued. But I don’t mean catchy taglines or positioning statements. In my recent blog, I’m sharing two case studies to show you how intentional languaging can redefine your market position and propel your company to new heights. Read it here ⬇

I spent the weekend reflecting on my time at #EXLUNITE and all the great people I connected with. The highlight of the sessions for me was the talk by Carole Robin, Ph.D. As someone who has been in this industry a long time it becomes more clear to me every year that most companies are focusing completely in the wrong direction when it comes to growing experimentation. 90% of the content on LinkedIn about testing is about the technology and the process of building tests (trends that come and go every year). But the reality is that building tests is actually the easy part... The hard part is people side. Communicating value to stakeholders, influencing & persuading decision makers, nurturing relationships and forging trusted allies, asking for resources, getting buy-in from partners, etc. The core of Carol's talk was that "People do business with people" and that there are strategic frameworks for nurturing relationships with stakeholders from "functional" to "robust" relationships. Can't wait to learn more reading her book "Connect" Her talk was a great reminder that even when it seems like we are facing process problems, data problems, or technology problems, at the end of the day these are all people problems - and how we respond makes a big difference in achieving the outcomes we share together. Thanks Ben Labay & Collin Crowell for taking what I imagine was a bit of a risk and picking a speaker outside of industry. I think sessions like these help move the needle in developing a culture of experimentation more than another recycled angle on p-values or processes, etc. Looking forward to next year!

The jobs-to-be-done framework (JTBD) is a tool for product managers to better understand and empathize with customers. Using a framework like JTBD can help you make more informed decisions about what to build next. The premise of JTBD is that customers buy products to complete specific jobs. One of the most underrated frameworks ever. Often PMs talk about customer empathy, but they often overlook the JTBD and the motivations behind using a product. JTBD is very critical in designing happy flows in the product. do you agree? Mention in the comments below.. #productmanagement #consultingCase #consultant #productmanager #productFrameworks

How can we create the conditions for new ideas to emerge? This is the topic for our Complex Mess gathering next week - Wednesday 13 March, 6:30-8:30pm. When we engage with big complex problems, finding "solutions" is not really the point. Instead, we need to come up with new ideas for approaching them. But new ideas don't happen easily. So what do we need to do to have the best chance that they will emerge? Come along and learn from the group and share your thoughts and experiences to help others. If you would like to join us for the conversation, email or DM me or Dave Godden meredith@talkingfutures.com.au

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” can be a comfortable thing to tell ourselves, but does it really achieve much more than survival? In our latest blog, Sara Moore explores how Breakthrough Thinking can help re-define what’s considered possible. Have a read here: https://lnkd.in/eTsERgUJ

Went for the wine, stayed for the wisdom. 🍷💡 Last night, I joined the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce for a networking event at Princess & Bear. While I was initially drawn in by the free wine, the real value came from an insightful conversation with fellow consultant, Robin. Robin has been in the consulting world for many years, long before I even considered entering the field. What struck me was her story of stepping out of a confining role to follow her passion—helping businesses grow by aligning with their financial goals. Today, she’s thriving, helping small businesses achieve 2x or even 3x growth. We talked about something we both see in today's market: the shortage of generalists who can see the bigger picture. So many businesses are focused on niche expertise, but what’s often needed is the ability to connect the dots and turn raw data into actionable insights. The most successful professionals aren’t worried about AI replacing them because they understand the true value lies in interpretation, not just information. It’s about translating data into strategy that drives results. That’s the kind of impact Robin makes, and it’s what I strive to do as well. Here’s to building more meaningful connections, sharing more insights, and continuing to provide real value beyond the numbers.

Critical C&C Audience No. 2 : "Complexity Thinkers". Some of our fave Complexity Thinking Quotes: "Abandon the urge to simplify everything, to look for formulas and easy answers, and to begin to think multidimensionally, to glory in the mystery and paradoxes of life, not to be dismayed by the multitude of causes and consequences that are inherent in each experience -- to appreciate the fact that life is complex.” ― Scott Peck "When people complain of your complexity, they fail to remember that they made fun of your simplicity.” ― Michael Bassey Johnson “Simplicities are enormously complex. Consider the sentence "I love you".” ― Richard O. Moore "For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong." - H. L. Mencken "Life it is not just a series of calculations and a sum total of statistics, it's about experience, it's about participation, it is something more complex and more interesting than what is obvious." - Daniel Libeskind "Some problems are so complex that you have to be highly intelligent and well informed just to be undecided about them."- Laurence J. Peter We're looking for complexity thinkers to be foundational parts of our new venture to create the best platform in the world that inventories, maps, explains and helps implement approaches and frameworks for better knowledge-building and decision-making.
