This YouTube Short clip shows how I explain to Doctor of Physical Therapy students the best way to assist me off the floor. This is with 90% assistance. I can take small steps only if the person holding me has a firm grip and maintains strong posture/foot placement. Anyone can work on getting stronger, but this is how I survive if I fall in public. Falling itself isn't dangerous if you do it with proper mechanics. However, not being able to get up when you are in the path of a car or train is.

Assisted fall recovery for people with more severe impairments is a major knowledge gap in rehabilitative therapy for adults. Sometimes rehab clinicians provide the generic methods they learned in school to get up from the floor. However, they struggle to see the realistic scenarios in which people fall. A patient may be able to get off the floor successfully in a controlled environment without noises, inclement weather, and car/train traffic. However, newly disabled people need to be prepared to survive in the worst scenarios.
Hire me to discuss fall recovery and to perform as a patient model.

Being a Physical Therapist isn't about grades, it's about being who we are. No book can teach you how to cry with a patient. No class can teach you for consoling families facing loss or illness. No professor can teach you how to find dignity in their rehabilitation journey.
Being a Physical Therapist is not about exercises or treatment plans. It's about being able to love people when they're at their weakest moments.

Something that sets Curnyn PT apart from the rest?
👉 You'll work with the same physical therapist throughout your entire treatment.
While other clinics shuffle patients from PT to PT, every Curnyn patient receives a primary physical therapist who takes charge of their treatment plan (and sees them every week).
Why? Because we believe that working with a physical therapist who thoroughly understands your condition, circumstances & goals is the best way to achieve success.

A good amount of what I do as a physical therapist can be summed up with 3 questions:
What's hard for you to do?
Why is it hard for you to do it?
What's it going to take for this movement/exercise/activity to feel easy or normal to you again?
What makes my job unique and challenging is that the path and the methods used to get people to their end goal (moving without pain or limitation) can vary widely from person to person.
Just yesterday, it looked like working with:
- a patient with a recent flare-up in low back pain
- a patient recovering from a stroke who wants to walk normally again
- a patient with ongoing neck and jaw pain and accompanying headaches
- a patient with knee pain following a car accident
- a patient recovering from a bicep tear acquired while working as a firefighter.
These people have similar goals, but require different interventions and guidance from me. Fortunately, I have the time (because I see people one-on-one for the whole session) to provide these people with the help they need.
Did you know that this is how PTs work with their patients? Is this the experience that you had if you've worked with a PT before?
