UPDATE On the Future of the California Bar Exam 21 May 2024: I contacted CalBar today to discuss issues and make sure I got information to the Board of Trustees WELL IN ADVANCE of the Special Set meeting. CalBar sent me a note for clarification - believing that there was no Special Set Meeting of the Board of Trustees (BoT)... but there is, in fact, the very last sentence of that last meeting had been to expect a Special Set Meeting so that the Kaplan Plan can be ironed out for approval. CalBar staff asked in terms of their understanding that there was NOT a BoT meeting in the works... so I discussed that a Jun or Jul meeting would be too late for anything constructive to happen, so migrate my discussion internally among interested / concerned CalBar Staff Members. They contacted me again, with the new understanding that there is INDEED going to be a Special Set meeting for the BoT, and that my discussion items would be shared with the BoT members. This is the most detailed recent discussion I have had with CalBar staff, and this was a solidly positive understanding... I also sent my discussion to others... so that it would be out there. Of course, I will also publish my comments closer to the meeting, and I continue to look for that every day! This is all in terms of the Kaplan Contract and the Future of the California Bar Exam generally. #rayhayden #californiabarexam #barexam #lawstudy #lawschool #kaplan #kaplannorthamerica

CalBar Reaches Out to Me: In Jun 2023, CalBar contacted me to discuss my suggestions for the CGBX, but I had suggestions for both the FYLSX and the CGBX. For BOTH exams, I said to drop the "Written Section." For BOTH Exams, I suggested reworking the MCQ's so that they had been Honestly Objective, and Fair. I also suggested a program whereby CalBar creates study material on what is most vital for Newly Licensed Lawyers (NLL's). The REASON why is because CalBar is who grants us the license, and they also take it away - NO ONE ELSE is more qualified to create a course of information which we must know COLD as Newly Licensed Lawyers to meet three goals and objectives, 1) Assure greater Competence in Newly Licensed Lawyers, 2) GUARANTEE greater protection for the General Public, and 3) GUARANTEE a more Diverse California Bar Membership. I have come to refer to the program as the Onboarding Process to Admissions, and because people freak out about a Non Exam Process, I included Quizzes and Final Exams on each subject of the program, and also required that everyone meet the minimum passing score of 100% perfection to pass - 99% correct is failing!!! Onboarding Process to Admissions: Eight to Twelve Weeks long, but why? This is the waiting time for taking the Feb Exam, and getting the results. Also, it could be done faster... it is asynchronous, anyone can begin at any time. EVERYONE can participate, because once we meet the qualifications to SIT for the Current Exam? We are all in the same place - we qualify to take the exam differently, but once we qualified, we can sit for the exam now. The MCQ Exam option: This is still going to be needed, but my suggestion is superior to any other, here is why? Validation of Questions in the MCQ exams: Be it in a long program, or a one day exam, the only way to demonstrate (objectively!), the validity of the question is to answer the following question with, "Yes, it does!" Here is the question for validation, objectively proven... "Does this question aid in creating a more competent Newly Licensed Lawyer, provide GREATER protection for the General Public, and GUARANTEE a more Diverse California bar Membership?" The answer to that MUST be, "Yes!" Otherwise, the question is invalid, and a waste of time. #rayhayden #barexam #californiabarexam #lawschool #lawstudy

On Saturday, I was opportune to open the ATLS (All Talented Law Students) Event, with my Performance of "Never Enough" by Lorren Allred. I got to the venue early and was waiting for the event to start. My nervousness only started, when I was told, I would be the one to open the event with my performance. And this was mainly because this would be my first time doing a solo performance in front of an audience. I never wanted to be the first person to start but there was no way they could change the order of programme, since it was already set. I could only pace around rehearsing with the little time I had before the event started. I kept telling myself "You are not nervous", "You can do this", "You are good to go", "You don't need to be scared, you will do great". I kept saying these words to myself for them to enter my consciousness. And alas!!! I was called to the podium and I sang my heart out. And it turned out to be absolutely mind blowing. I even got amazing feedbacks from people about how my performance blew them away. This post is not about the event though, it is to draw a moral lesson from the story. Are you scared to take that step thinking you may flop or make mistakes? Are you still in your comfort zone and you don't want to go all out because you are afraid of what might happen? Then, my story should give you an insight into what you should do. Don't be scared!!! Don't remain in your comfort zone!!! Go all out!!! Be optimistic!!! Be Positive!!! And don't forget to confess to yourself the right things. Never be afraid to take that big step today. You might never know, you might end up having an excellent performance just like I did. Don't think you will be alone in this journey, I am also on this journey of going all out with you☺. I can't wait to see our excellent performances when we all take that BIG step.

THE JOURNEY FROM BECOMING CONTESTANT TO JUDGE I am immensely grateful for the privilege to have served as a judge for the IX UPES School of Law 's National Client Counselling Competition, 2024 in both Preliminary Rounds 1 & 2. It's an honor to come full circle, having once been participant in this very competition and clinching the runners-up position and now contributing from a different vantage point. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the UPES University for entrusting me with the responsibility to judge this esteemed competition. As an experienced competitor, I understand the significance of this competition. It's not about winning or losing but about honing skills, embracing challenges, and learning from every encounter. The importance of client counselling can't be overstated as it bridges the gap between the theory and practice, equipping students with the ability to understand real-world legal scenarios with empathy, clarity, and professionalism. While judging the event, I saw some of the best budding lawyers whose dedication, passion, and commitment to the excellence are commendable. Let their journey bring wide experiences that shapes them into the outstanding legal professionals they aspire to be. UPES School of Law 's VidhiUtsav deserves a special applaud for organizing this competition where students can thrive, learn, I and showcase their talents. Your efforts in promoting practical legal education are invaluable and greatly appreciated. I also extend my heartfelt thanks to Anwesha Pathak Surya Saxena Vihaan Pathak Bhargavi Rathore for their kind co-operation in every stage of the competition. #clientcounselling #competition #upes #adr #alternativedisputeresolution #judge #industryacademiacollaboration #challenges #success

Hi Network!! Following results day, I wanted to share a few thoughts I’ve had during this summer break. First and foremost, I have been fortunate enough to receive an offer to study Law with Spanish at the University of Leicester through UCAS Clearing. Though I received an offer from my firm choice university, I wasn’t 100% sure if I definitely wanted to go there to study Law with International Relations, thus I opted for a place at Leicester instead. A misconception many students make surrounding Clearing is: “Clearing is for people that didnt achieve the grades required for their firm/insurance choice” when in fact sometimes it allows more choice in making the crucial decision surrounding a university place. Additionally, I have had time to ponder on my time at my last school, Christ’s Hospital. My experience there was nothing short of endless opportunities that fostered a solid foundation for my further education and professional career. I have achieved a lot in the past few years and many of those opportunities were provided by CH. Many thanks to the staff for the support and the friends I made along the way (plus the Monitors too!) - A Levels are challenging but a solid support system can work wonders. Final thought - I would like to provide some advice for any incoming Year 12/13s in tackling A Levels: - Stay on top of the work! - Keep yourself occupied outside of the academic timetable. - Have a strong support system, including teachers/ tutors and friends/ family. - Celebrate the small achievements, whether those are academic or extra-curricular. - Grab the opportunities that come your way with open arms/ never miss out on a chance to network with people that are interested in an industry you are passionate about. - Never be afraid to ask for help. Now, onto the next chapter, I cannot wait for what the future holds.
