A few months ago, we asked our young talents Diankemba DABO,EUNGI HWANG, Theodore Yang, Jingjing Bao and Meesha Ghedia what “Diversity”, “Equity” and “Inclusion” mean to them and why they choose to start their career with our International Finance Graduate Program. I would like to share with them my definition of D&EI and why it will always be at the core of our People and Sustainability strategy. Diversity, equity, and inclusion (D&EI) are fundamental principles that drive success and foster a positive workplace culture. Here’s why they are essential at Plastic Omnium:   1️⃣ Innovation: multicultural teams bring together a wide range of perspectives, experiences, and ideas, leading to more innovative solutions and better decision-making.   2️⃣ Talent attraction and retention: a commitment to D&EI demonstrates to talented employees that our Group values their unique contributions and is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment.   3️⃣ Employee engagement and satisfaction: inclusive workplaces where all employees feel valued and respected are more likely to have higher levels of workforce engagement, satisfaction, and morale.   4️⃣ Customer satisfaction: a plural workforce provides a better representation of customer diversity, resulting in greater customer satisfaction, loyalty and retention.   5️⃣ Brand reputation: companies that prioritize D&EI are viewed more positively by customers, investors, and the community at large, leading to enhance brand reputation and credibility.   In conclusion, "Diversity", "Equity" and "Inclusion" are not just moral imperatives, they are also critical drivers of business success and HR strategies success.   #Thankyou to our young talents to have shared with us their vision of a more inclusive and equitable world. 🤝 Driving a #NewGen of #Leaders #ActForAll #DEI

As our International Women’s Day stories come to an end, we turn to Letty Liu, working as an AMS Manager in the Hospitality business area. In the bustling city of Beijing, Letty's career journey stands as a testament to dedication and growth. "I graduated from the School of Tourism at Beijing United University. As soon as I left the campus, I came to ASSA ABLOY Global Solutions, where I have been working for over a decade now. The colleagues I work with are like my family. We help each other and have a lot of fun together.” Milestones in my career: I was promoted in 2023. My previous job was within customer service, but now I will be responsible for the management of AMS in the northern Chinese market and the administrative management of our Beijing office. An important milestone for me and my career that I’m very proud of.   Challenges I’ve faced: In my daily work, I encounter clients with different needs and priorities that I try to help them with. When doing this I often imagine myself as a client. If I were in their position, what kind of service would I need and what difficulties would I face? That makes the work easier, picturing the client’s situation and how I would feel if I were in their shoes.   Why diversity is important in teams: Diverse teams bring together individuals with varying backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. This rich mix fosters creativity and encourages innovative thinking. When people from different walks of life collaborate, they generate fresh ideas and solutions that are important for us to succeed. Inclusion contributes to creating a warm workplace environment where everyone can fully participate, be respected, and acknowledged.   My advice: I would like to share a quote that I believe is inspiring: “If you haven't broken the norm, you won't understand how big the world is.” #internationalwomensday #assaabloyglobalsolutions #career

Three Critical Takeaways: Milei's Speech, Davos and Procurement Milei's speech at Davos is making waves. Marc Andreessen called it the “speech of the 21st Century” earlier today. I just watched it (<25 minutes). Here are three critical takeaways for procurement and supply chain professionals. 1) Reward entrepreneurialism in your supply base because it helps you as a buyer. Entrepreneurs, in the words of Milei, are the “heros” of the world. They can be your heros as well. Take the time to find small, creative companies to work with that disrupt the paradigm with better products, pricing or capability. Those who seek to tear down and improve a given category are those who will provide outsized value to your organization. Over invest in finding them (especially in tech, which is changing so fast!) 2) Markets tend to yield the best possible answers. For example, in a sourcing event, focus on price discovery and transparency (this is why AI and sourcing automation is so powerful for tail spend -- because it was impossible to address before at scale via market-based price discovery approaches). In addition, Do not pay unnecessary “taxes” or “rents” on spend by sourcing from given geographies which mandate certain requirements over others. Seek to identify regions which are rolling back regulation versus adding new ones. It will give you a competitive advantage in your supply base. 3) Free market principles within your supply base (and individual suppliers) are your friend. A great example is sourcing professional services. For example, one Big 5 firm recently announced an internship program that explicitly barred white and Jewish applicants from applying, constraining the talent it hires and therefore, ultimately, that which it brings to clients. I don’t know about you, but selfishly, I want the best talent for my services spending. And I want to work with firms which have the best pipeline to talent. Period. The bottom line: those suppliers which do not apply free market principles to their own supply chain by creating artificial market constraints (such as not hiring whites and Jews) are treating you, the customer, as part of a collectivist (i.e., opposite of profit seeking) experiment whether you know it or not. #davos #worldeconomicforum #milei #supplychain #procurement

My Journey from Academia to the Corporate World: This is my first LinkedIn post, and I feel it’s a good time to share my humble thoughts on this topic. After my PhD, I took a bold step and joined Linde Malaysia as a Sales Executive in November 2022. Many asked, "Why sales after a PhD?" Initially, these comments gave me pause, but I forged ahead. Now, I can say it’s one of the best decisions of my life. Sales is a battlefield where titles hold little weight; what matters is your service and convincing customers of your product's value. This environment teaches resilience and the importance of character and attitude. A PhD is an advantage in sales, especially with technically-minded customers. Discussing complex details builds trust and credibility, skills honed during my PhD. Every research project harbours untapped commercial potential. As a PhD, you excel at transforming intricate ideas into marketable solutions—an essential skill for business growth. It's not merely about technical expertise; it's about charting the course to commercialization and bringing ideas to life. In sales, you hone the art of selling products, a skill essential for commercializing every concept. Many PhDs shy away from sales roles due to misplaced "shame" or prestige concerns, and some companies fear overqualification. This is a missed opportunity. More often than not, PhDs are dedicated, not geniuses. Corporates should not pedestalize PhDs excessively, nor should PhDs. Your PhD title will be appreciated in the corporate world, yes! Respect is earned through contributions and impact, and colleagues and even customers will recognize your qualifications, often calling you "Dr." In conclusion, joining a corporate role after a PhD is rewarding. It pushes you out of your comfort zone, enhances practical skills, and applies academic insights in real-world scenarios. One of my biggest achievement of 2024 Q1. Few weeks back, I finished teaching my son how to ride a bicycle without supporters. While its still early days, he is able to pedal around with fair bit of confidence now. As a parent of growing child, time and again we find the below saying quite effective and inspiring. All things are difficult, before they become easy. Whether its personal, educational or professional - the above words are applicable not just for kids, but for adults equally. After completing MBA, my employer P&G asked me to join at their Asia headquarters in Singapore to manage a premium skin care brand for the South East Asia region. On my second day at work, I was part of a leadership review where most of the acronyms sounded alien to me. Also, this was my first ever experience reading 1-pager business review documents. I was truly awestruck by the crispness and thought clarity of these docs. Within a few days of joining, my manager told me to write a 1-pager update for the upcoming monthly business review. Despite having a fair understanding of the brand, market and competitive landscape; it felt very overwhelming to provide an end to end context, update and recommendation within 1 page. Needless to say, my first few 1-pagers went through multiple iterations and it was only after 5+ monthly reviews (and 100+ iterations), that my marketing and finance leaders appreciated my doc writing for the first time. That was the day, I really felt having arrived at P&G. I wont call myself an expert at doc writing as its an ever evolving process. If I read that first draft written by a young Assistant Brand Manager in July 2011, it would definitely substantiate the saying which I use to encourage my son to try out new things. I questioned if it was the right move. Reflecting on a recent career crossroad: Recently, my company made the decision to divest its Singapore business, prompting a pivotal crossroad in my career. The choice between staying with the new ownership or parting ways. I opted for the latter. I questioned if it was the right move. With 15 uninterrupted years dedicated to the life sciences industry, this unexpected change stirred a mix of anxiety and anticipation. As I reflect on this journey, I recognize the depth of experience gained, the challenges overcome, and the growth achieved in the ever-evolving landscape.   As General Manager, I weathered storms, navigated crises, and steered the ship through uncharted waters. I've experienced everything from crisis management to record- breaking revenue, P&L management to M&A. Overcoming these challenges and achieving record- breaking revenue when we are in the process of being acquired are made possible through the unwavering dedication of my exceptional team (Tyler Lee, Zu Xuan Lee, Wee Thim Yew, Ming Liang Choo, @Danny Teh, @Sam Seow, @Xin Yi, @Jenny Maria Wee) who wholeheartedly embrace the visionary path we have embarked upon. The journey was an invaluable real-life experience where I also learned the significance of empowering my team and fostering a collaborative, goal-driven team.   This decision signifies a departure from the familiar, a courageous leap into the unknown. However, it stands as a deliberate choice—an unwavering commitment to welcome change, explore uncharted horizons, and reshape my professional journey.
