When you’re applying for a remote job, you will need to convince the employer that you are the best fit for the role AND that you can succeed in a remote work environment. I have to ask, how does location factor into whether a job is offered or denied upon an application's arrival? I know a lot of places nowadays require on-site work, but surely being willing to relocate is a plus in such instances, right? If you're just searching candidates from within five miles of your company HQ, that's a shallow pool to skim. I also don't understand how a job can be considered remote while also demanding that a potential candidate must be in the same city anyway. Kinda defeats the purpose of remote work. Hybrid, certainly, but the point of remote work is that it can be done anywhere, any time. Again, limiting one's candidate pool is not a good idea. Working in an industry for the arts does mean one is limited as to where one can work. New York, Orlando, and Los Angeles are the biggest names I can think of in the US alone, after all. If you have a talented writer or artist or programmer, why not invite them out? Even if they live in the middle of nowhere, give them an opportunity.

I’m getting a bit tired of talking about remote work… Because only talking about it doesn’t really: - Help more professionals to land a remote job - Make companies to fully embrace it once and for all - Allow professionals to focus in their careers in the right way Talking is good, don’t get me wrong. But taking actions is what will transform reality. I spoke to some people 2-3 years ago, when they started considering landing a remote job. Time has passed, they reached out to me again now, and they are still in the exact same stage: still “thinking about landing a remote job”. Your reality won’t change if you don’t change. Just “wanting” something won’t make it magically happen. There is no guarantee you’ll land a flexible job.
