Currently the federal government spends $22 Billion on sourcing goods and services from businesses across Canada with less than 1% being spent on Indigenous businesses. To help the Canadian government meet its targeted, minimum of 5% Indigenous procurement, the First Nations Procurement Organization was formed. Five Indigenous economic Organizations have come together, with the full support of the Assembly of First Nations, to form the group. They include AFOA Canada, the Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers (CANDO), First Nations Finance Authority (FNFA), First Nations Financial Management Board (FMB), and the National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Association (NACCA). Canada is a trading nation that relies on our abundance of natural resources and the ability to get our goods to market. Some Canadians may aspire for a different economic foundation for our country, but that is a dream for the future. The reality is that our natural resources are paying the bills, reported BIV News. "The other reality is that the resources Canada exports are bulky and challenging to move. Our ability to achieve economic success as a trading nation is founded on our ability to move these goods to market promptly and predictably. As our transportation systems improve, so does our economic prosperity." "Unfortunately, the reverse is also true. Who benefits from a national conversation about labour productivity in Canada? The conversation is essential, but it cannot become a proxy for further investments in oil and gas development that neither Canadians nor the planet can afford. We need to prioritize investment in highly productive sectors that a net zero world depends on. The national average is $64.7 per hour. Investments in mining, sustainable fuels, green chemistry, mass timber, and metal manufacturing will all boost that significantly. TOP OPPORTUNITIES Chemical manufacturing -- 247.4 Green aluminum -- 154.4 Engineered wood product manufacturing -- 97.1 Aquaculture -- 102.9 (growing so fast!) Metal manufacturing -- 95.5 And we need to raise productivity across manufacturing sectors with major investments in capital goods R&D, automation, and process modernization. The table should make clear that natural resources are the basis of Canadian productivity. Think about that: actually it is *natural* capital not manufacturing assets that typically drive Canadian productivity. We have to add value to our natural capital in multiple verticals to benefit. Building up our advanced manufacturing base is the key to unlocking long-term sustainable productivity gains.

The National Indigenous Procurement Working Group has created clear Indigenous Business Definitions to improve economic outcomes for Indigenous Peoples in Canada. These definitions can be used in public and private sector procurement processes. It does a future prediction of goods sourcing considering the huge network and involvement of the Central Asian countries as well as China's foreign policy (Inclusively talking about the aspects of geopolitics + geo-economics). For Example: As per Center for Strategic and International Studies, China has awarded 60% of BRI (Belton Road Initiative) Projects to the Chinese companies, whereas only 30% of BRI Projects has been awarded to the Non-Chinese Companies.
