This project is not really recent news, as it was announced a couple of years back, but have a look at this video of the Cargo Sous Terrain (CST) project that Switzerland is undertaking in order to address the growing challenges of goods distribution. They want to build a 500 km underground distribution network from St. Gallen to Geneva by 2045, with a cost of 30 Billion CHF.
