In my opinion, the advent of machines with cognitive and motor abilities superior to humans would be equivalent to the arrival of an extraterrestrial species on Earth. These machines will probably be friendly to humans as long as the interests of humans and machines align. What will happen if the interests of the two "species" diverge? Humans are generally friendly to their cats. Let's do a thought experiment. Suppose we discover one day that cats are carriers of very dangerous viruses for humans. In your opinion, what decision would humans reserve for these cats? The rise of these machines can also be compared to the arrival of American colonists, who were more educated and better trained than the Native Americans. We all know how that turned out... In my view, the debate about AI and its dangers is much more political than scientific. It wasn't up to scientists to initiate the Manhattan Project, and it's not up to them to manage the "tool" they invented. All these works must be supervised by a democracy that represents the citizens.
I propose the creation of the DeTuring Award. It will be granted to people who are consistently trying (and failing) to deter society from using computer technology by scaring everyone with imaginary risks. As the Turing Award is the Nobel Prize of computing, the DeTuring Award is the IgNobel Prize of computing.

Entrepreneur within IT industry with focus on AI, data science, NLP, logistics and sustainability. From visions to profitable solutions.
Yann LeCun present the winners - or should I say loosers - of a reward for people missing out what has now become a great success with modern AI. Modern AI is primarily a machine learning discipline. Machine learning utilise data to learn a model to predict answers to a problem. The learning is a trial and error process. The model try to imitate the results from the data it is served. AI consists of several disciplines of which the most expressed before machine learning was logical models. Logical models are remarkable and they are used in many advanced and useful expert systems today. Their limitation is however that the logical rules to a great extent must be hand-crafted by humans. The problem is that it is an impossible task to produce all rules, complete and consistent, for other than very constrained domains. (Can you write to me all the rules for driving a car, including all potential situations and conditions?) The machine learning (ML) approach is to acquire as much data as possible and let the algorithm learn from this data. This works very well! As most of us now experience. The ML discipline is not new, but ML needs a lot of data and lots of computer processing power, resources not available before. Data became available due to the internet boom and the digitalization of private and public life. In parallel, we had a tremendous development of computing power performance. Together this paved the way for machine learning. Today we meet remarkable ML models everywhere. And the development continues with increasing speed. We are in the AI era. The hype will gradually fade out, but we will not encounter any AI winter again. And no one will state that AI is a dead end. #AI #AIwinter #machinelearning #logicalreasoning #llm #future #heretostay #computingpower #data #Internet #artificialintelligence Chronos.ai

M.Sc Student at Universität zu Köln (BCGS) | Research Enthusiast | Medical physics | Quantum Computing | Machine Learning
I am delighted to share a recent achievement, as I firmly believe in lifelong learning: obtaining a certification in Introduction to Quantum Computing. This two-semester programme covered a range of fascinating topics, including quantum mechanics, Cirq coding, qubits, the Bloch sphere, quantum gates, circuits, and measurements, Grover's algorithm, and quantum protocols. Additionally, I delved into multi-qubit states, quantum chemistry, quantum hardware, quantum algorithms, and experimental metrics and implementation. This achievement was made possible by the support of a fully funded scholarship from the The Coding School. I am excited for the journey ahead in the quantum realm. #quantumcomputing #quantum #lifelonglearning #professionaldevelopment #quantummechanic
