LTG Jensen, director of the Army National Guard and U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) #amsp alum, shares his thoughts on command and the role of the National Guard in today's Army. Kudos to a couple of our resident National Guardsmen Jesse Valles and Russ McKelvey for hosting a great #oparch show! A few thoughts that stuck with me: (1) Solve problems at your echelon. This means enabling the headquarters below you and understanding the mission of your higher headquarters to be at the right place, time and with the right capability to help them win. (2) Every component has a role (Active, Guard, Reserve). Be clear on expectations and invest the resources to ensure you get the right capabilities in the time you need them. (3) Mobilization - it's hard on paper, harder to imagine what it will be like in "real life". We won't know unless we rehearse. Doing 🇫🇮 military service this week in the ”Freezing winds” operation with the 🇫🇮Marines, 🇺🇸US Marines & the 🇬🇧Royal Navy + 6 other🇸🇪🇫🇷 NATO entities. I think the strength in the Finnish hard security system, with the military, police, border guard and rescue services included, is the strong support and trust within the people. Mainly this is because the system is built on that everyone is or can be involved and engaged. My first leadership education and training was in the Marines early in my career. Later I have been growing these skills in training, education and 20 years of civillian practice of leadership in different roles. Now I am happy that these accumulated skills and experience are appriciated in the military. Both worlds can gain something from the other. 🇫🇮#military #business #leadership

Excellent introduction to the SCC aspect of H2F. A key component is injury prevention through appropriate and consistent PT. As this program expands ultilization, it's impact will be felt down the road as injuries go down and more adaptable soldiers are developed. Combined with the other resources within H2F, the program will strengthen and improve the quality of life for service members. #H2F

As part of #ArmedForces week, today marks specific recognition of those in our Reserve Armed Forces. You might even spot some wearing their military uniform to their civilian work today, where safe and practicable. Reservists are commonly cited as "twice the citizen" as they choose to support the Armed Forces in their spare time, typically during the evenings and weekends, but occasionally full-time when the country needs additional support. I was an Army Reservist for 13 years. I had a huge amount of opportunities presented to me which helped my professional development, which, in turn, my employers were able to benefit from. Whether that was transferring ideas/best practice/working models to/from the military and civilian worlds, or in the training & experience I gained in leadership and operational roles. Do you know any Reservists? How does your company support and enable them?

I think this is an important paper that anyone who cares about our military and our nation should read. Some of my thoughts: 1. I completely agree with the Culture Shift of Mission Command and "disciplined disobedience." Easy to say - tough to do but we have to embrace it. 2. Agree on all points of technology and the need to operate routinely dispersed, disconnected, and in multi-domain including commercial. 3. The idea of a move towards partial conscription is interesting but I think unworkable. It is not the American Way of War to have a large standing Army and even when we had conscription it was short. Even FDR on the eve of Pearl Harbor would not have been able to get support for the draft and today there is no support. So what do we do? I would have liked to see an embracing of Coalition/Allies. America's super power is that we have friends and our threat does not.

Though not a U.S. Army School of Advanced Military Studies (SAMS) text, this book contains useful insights. The Roman military took 14 years to adapt to the warfighting methods of an innovative and resourceful enemy. The successful (if unpopular) approaches of Fabius and Scipio Africanus compensated for much less effective leaders. Roman success was ultimately due to its ability to continually regenerate capability and its strategic and operational endurance. A key passage: "The factor which, in the end, defeated the invader was not the ability of Rome's generals, but the strength and vitality of her political institutions." How ready is our system, both internal and external to our Armed Forces, to sustain and prosecute a protracted, large scale conflict? In 2002, 56 years after the establishment of the National War College and Armed Forces Staff College and 16 years following the enactment of the Goldwater-Nichols Act, General Richard Myers, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the time, issued a directive to the Joint Staff: “[We must] expand and improve JPME to develop trust amongst the services, ensure service integration, develop transformational leaders, capable of working with other agencies and services, incorporate observations from recent operations, and educate and train the right person for the right task at the right time.” Two years later, in 2004, the CJCS established the Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS) as a Top-Level School (TLS) / Senior Service College (SSC) with a curriculum mirroring the operational warfighting character of the prized Service Advanced Warfighting Schools (AWS) like SAMS, SAW, SAASS, and NOPC, but with a distinctively Joint focus. Today, after 20 years of Joint Professional Military Education excellence in Joint Warfighting, our mission remains to “prepare U.S. and international military officers and U.S. Government civilians to serve in strategic leadership positions and lead the development of theater strategies, campaigns, and operations for the employment of joint forces in support of strategic objectives and policy goals.“ JAWS exists to produce the graduates Combatant Commanders require: Historically-Informed, Strategically-Minded, Joint Warfighters. Ancient Of Days Ambassador Of God! High Alert! Expose Evil! No one becomes a Soldier, Cutting Corners, Getting a free pass or Whining! The Military is not for the faint or weak at heart. You see that Heat on them? It's those who can take the Heat and what their Trainers teach them that Win the War!!!! It's for those courageous reasons all the military from the least to highest rank should be honored for their service! It's unfortunately the military recently has lost a few of their own with the Iran tragedy, as well as Israel, and Ukraine. I may not have gone to enlist in the military, but anyone crosses the line to attack US Soil. I would have no problem taking a hammer and nailing their head!!!! We don't know what these terrorist domestic or foreign will try next, but I know we do need to be preparing to protect ourselves from any attack on US Soil. 911 should be the one and only lesson that we needed to learn. Americans need to stop being so comfortable and complacent while the enemies in the corporations, WEF, WHO, UN, the Hiden Crime Family, and the demonrats plot their next scheme. In case this was to happen, or they attempt to do this, we should do this. It's time we begin to have a shift in our mindset to think that way more in a Proactive mode!!!!
