Care work is a cornerstone of our socio-economic system, yet its value often goes unrecognized. At the recent WEPs Forum in partnership with UN Women Kenya, leaders highlighted that no real progress can be made towards gender equality without addressing the inequalities in unpaid care work. To foster gender equality, we must establish a care system that supports the well-being and dignity of all Kenyans, recognizing and rewarding care work. Unpaid care work is a critical aspect of SDG 5, Target 5.4.1, which calls on member states to value care and domestic work through public services, infrastructure, and social protection policies.
