Reflecting on a powerful moment at the AVPN South Asia Summit in Dec 2023, where Aditya N. CEO Piramal Foundation shed light on AVPN's ability to address the critical needs of the social sector ecosystem. Aditya underscored the significance of reaching marginalized communities often overlooked by mainstream CSR and philanthropy. This resonates deeply with a universal challenge in the social impact sector: the imperative to understand and uplift marginalized populations, irrespective of their geographical location. What Aditya emphasizes is the pivotal role our platform plays in fostering collaboration among partners to mitigate risks, expedite learning, and magnify impact, particularly in those 'fringe' areas most in need. It's about converging fringe topics into the mainstream discourse - from regional marginalization, to gender equity, to addressing sub-themes that often lack resources and attention, and championing models of financial inclusion and innovative financing. It's about showcasing how we can tackle global challenges by pooling our resources, knowledge, and efforts. As migration reaches historic highs, with 108 million forcibly displaced, and a surge in global migration, achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goal #16 for inclusive societies is critical. Despite benefits, challenges persist, such as discrimination and inequality, revealing an ambivalent and paradoxical inclusion experience. The symposium, spanning diverse contexts, migration states, and inclusion needs, explores belonging, integration struggles, and challenges in agency, representation, and labor market discrimination. The goal of the symposium is to provide insights on the benefits and challenges of inclusion, and to connect these findings with wider discussions and future research opportunities in organization and management theory.

The inept quest to lead others must first start with your ability to lead yourself. Self leadership is thus the ability of an individual to navigate his life's path successfully while achieving great impacts. The outcomes of which society can be grateful for. As our world takes a shift post COVID 19 and its adverse economic effects, careers, jobs and many companies have awoken to the sharp reality of systems updates, redefinition of critical roles and refocus of both human and material resources to areas that matter most. As young people begin to adjust to these realities, it's imperative to acquire the right knowledge and insight into the new global economy and how to position oneself as we endeavor to launch and grow in our sphere of influence. Its time for an update. No doubt about that but like all softwares, when you refuse to adhere to the simple instruction to update, you become an automatic victim of the malfunction of the old. Youth Unemployment is already a huge problem, coupled with limited opportunities for grabs and growth. The question is how can one build an enviable career strong enough to withstand the many shifts and changes ahead as the world becomes more and increasingly boarderless. Self Leadership can not be taken for granted. Positioning for alternative opportunities can't be over emphasised and exploring Leadership in public service a critical necessity. As part of our engagements in our upcoming November event, we will bring participants an engagement sessions which will be focused on How they can Design and develop enviable careers and distribute value to their world. Value that society can be grateful for. We will learn once again How to start an NGO or Foundation and build it to a point of accessing grants. In recent discussions I’ve had with business leaders, educators, and Indigenous leadership I’ve stressed the importance of this call. In Saskatchewan, the government recently passed legislation that requires all students to complete a financial literacy course in order to graduate. When I attended University in the late 80’s (and through to the late 90’s) their was a real push by post secondary institutions to get Indigenous students in certain fields, specifically health care (medicine, dentistry, etc.), social work, and education. We then saw a bit of shift toward STEM careers, but business programs were largely not included in recruitment. Having served on several First Nations & Métis economic development boards I can say that we need more Indigenous business leaders. Also it needs to start at the high school level. From my perspective, it would seem that schools participating in the Martin Family Initiative would be the logical entry point for this. Our communities are spinning out multi-million dollar businesses that need Indigenous leadership. As we move away from poverty mindsets to wealth mindsets I see the organization I lead (National Aboriginal Trust Officers Association (NATOA)) working with NACCA and others to advance this. #indigenousbusiness #reconciliationthrougheducation #economicreconciliation
