#LongRead #cabarasia How gender attitudes worsen the situation of women in Kyrgyzstan According to the World Bank's annual studies (WBL Indicator), that evaluate laws affecting women, Kyrgyzstan has one of the highest indicators in the region. The Constitution guarantees equal rights to Kyrgyz women, the state implements National Strategies and determines priority areas of gender policy. Meanwhile, for 3 years in a row, Kyrgyzstan is the least safe country for women in Central Asia according to the Global Women Peace and Security Index. 💡 Understanding why and how gender issues are considered (or not) is vital if we are to maximise influence in conflict contexts. We want to deliver the ambition in the UK’s International Women and Girls Strategy as well as achieving more sustainable peace and security outcomes. These are not mutually exclusive. We like to tout how great the USA is for its citizens. And yet countries with lesser economies are doing things for their citizens that we do not. We like to tout how great or bad capitalism is and yet we do not follow a true capitalist economy I think it’s time we look our form of economy see what it truly is. Should we be spending massive amounts on political campaigns as people struggle with inflation. The same goes for lobbyist. It’s time we either go back to true “capitalism “ with little government intervention, either for or against business. Or we name what we are doing which seems to be a light socialism mixed in with some capitalism. With all that it is good to see African countries taking control of their future and building governments and economies that “ their” people want. You cannot force so called democracy on people that do not want it

On Day one of #csw68 I had the pleasure to attend the opening panel for the first global and gender forum at COLUMBIA-SIPA, organized by the Center for Migration and Justice and supported by partners across academia, multilateral and civil society sectors. Yesterday's panel left me with as much enthusiasm as it left me with frustration, as we see global threats and ongoing recession to the rights and advancement of women, girls in all their diversity. Including, with particular concern, in my home country of El Salvador. I hope to expand my readings and utilize this knowledge while working in the field. In the Shadows: A Gender Analysis of Informal Work in Kosovo, launched recently by KWN aims to improve understanding of the informal economy in Kosovo from a gender perspective. It seeks to provide gender analysis needed to inform EU and Government efforts to address the informal economy and other economic development strategies in the context of Kosovo’s EU Accession process. The report can inform the forthcoming Government strategy to address the informal economy. This research also contributes updated data for Kosovo related to United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicator 5.4.1: “Proportion of time spent on unpaid domestic and care work, by sex, age and location”. Additionally, the research seeks to pilot improved ways of measuring informality, including indicators contextually specific to the Western Balkan (WB) region. As we celebrate International Migrants Day, the IOM Research has organized another exceptional GenMig panel to shed light on the gendered dimensions of migration. Our Executive Director Linda Adhiambo Oucho, PhD joins a panel of experts Dina Ionesco, Isadora Quay and Nadira Bayat who have brought in aspects of gender within the context of humanitarian response, climate change and trade. Dr Oucho shared her perspectives on the gendered dimensions of labour migration within the Eastern African region.
