Wow! What a showcase we had last week as part of our Augment the City competition. Tourism and innovation leads from across the Belfast Region joined us to hear the latest innovative ideas on how immersive technologies can help to enhance the region’s visitor experiences, including our highly anticipated Belfast Stories, opening in 2029. Ten innovators (Aura Studios, Ekaterina Solomatina, Darin Smyth, Liquid City, Animorph Co-op, Neurotech Ltd, Hamilton Robson, Co-operative Innovations Ltd and The Performance Cooperation, SENSEcity, Imvizar) were each awarded £10K during phase one of the competition to develop unique, creative proposals powered by technologies including AI, AR, VR, mixed reality, game engine technology, 3D technology, dynamic story engines, digital sculpture, and 5G. They presented their exciting ideas to a range of tourism representatives, technology and creative experts, local councils and other public sector partners. We were so impressed by their concepts, energy and enthusiasm, and can't wait to see the proposals develop over the next few months. Phase two of the competition, delivered by our City Innovation Office with funding from the Belfast Region City Deal, will provide an opportunity for five of the companies to receive a further £35K each to turn their proposal into a proof of concept.
