THE REAL CHALLENGE FOR AI AND PSM A recent article to do with AI and process safety was all about technology. But I suggest that the real challenge to AI will come from litigation. After all, it is called 'artificial' intelligence, so who gets sued when things go awry? Further thoughts on this conundrum at https://lnkd.in/eMGYrtS4.

Varonis has announced an exciting update regarding the use of AI for Data Classification https://lnkd.in/g2ZdcUa9 On the back of the announcement, this is my super star 🌟 Solutions Engineer, Gerard Burgess who emphasizes the 3 Cs for successful Data Classification: ✔️Complete: Ensure a comprehensive view of sensitive data, from JPEGs to Word Docs. Don't sample data; turn on OCR to avoid missing crucial information. ‼️Current: Continuous scanning is crucial as users generate numerous documents daily. Avoid relying on periodic scanners for up-to-date information. ❓Context: Once sensitive data is identified, what's next? Secure and restrict access to prevent internal or external exposure, reducing the risk of data exfiltration. Exciting advancements in AI are transforming data classification practices, ensuring a proactive approach to data security and compliance. #DataClassification #AI #VaronisUpdate

"Extinction-level threat to the human species" A U.S. government-commissioned report emphasizes the urgent need for decisive action to prevent potential extinction-level threats from artificial intelligence, highlighting substantial national security risks. The report, which involved discussions with over 200 experts, suggests imposing strict regulations on AI development, including setting limits on computational power for AI models and requiring governmental approval for deploying new models. It also recommends banning the publication of detailed AI model data and advocates for enhanced controls on AI chip manufacturing, while suggesting an increased focus on alignment research to ensure AI safety. Every scanned image of a bag or container contributes to a vast library of information. This library isn't just for show; it's a critical tool for teaching the systems that protect our ports of entry. Enter AI - think of it as a new employee who learns by example. The more varied and solid the data it learns from (like those hundreds of X-ray scans), the better it becomes at spotting something fishy—be it hidden weapons, illicit substances, or unauthorized cargo. This is why high-quality, consistent data matters. It ensures that the AI systems can not only recognize threats accurately but also keep up with the clever tactics smugglers might use. Once trained, AI isn't left to its own devices. It’s continually updated with new data from ongoing operations, creating a feedback loop that sharpens its detection skills. With robust data and AI, we can build intelligent systems capable of detecting contraband effectively, ensuring our ports and borders remain secure. Now, on to you - how would you rate the strength of your data foundation? #AI #DataFoundation #ThreatDetection #Customs #ScreeningSolution #S2Global #CertScan #CONOPS

Expert in Customer Experience (CX) & Voice of the Customer (VoC) practices. Tracking COVID-19 and its continuing impact on health, the economy & business.
Nothing to see here. Just another AI research report, this one commissioned by the US State Department, that says #AI could, in a worst-case scenario, “pose an extinction-level threat to the human species.” The report notes that major categories of weaponization risk include cyber, AI-augmented disinformation, robotic control, psychological manipulation, and weaponized biological or material sciences. It advises an action plan with Lines of Effort to stabilize, strengthen, and scale advanced AI development safely and securely. These include a government task to monitor AI development, controls on the AI supply chain, more education and training, the creation of an advanced AI regulatory agency, the establishment of a criminal and civil liability regime, and an international agency to monitor and verify adherence. There is already a growing divide between people who think that unfettered and unrestricted development of AI is vital and those who advocate for a more measured, monitored, and controlled level of R&D. No one is arguing against AI--at least no one serious--but we can expect the debate to become more heated. https://lnkd.in/g-fETFXX
