Why I am now a fan of blind football … and related interesting insights for cultural development! A short while ago, I attended the semi-finals of blind football at the Paris Paralympics and had just a great evening with around 10.000 people in the Stade de la Tour Eiffel. I understood that blind football has most often no audience at all despite the incredible performances of the players including an impressive penalty-shoot-out between the teams of Argentina and Brazil. Some reflections why so many did show up and had a great time: A venue with an added value – cultural heritage makes the difference – in this case the Eiffel Tower A once-in a live occasion – maybe never again a Paralympic football tournament will be done at a stadium at the Eiffel Tower A safe space of interaction – a secure and well-designed access and public space and crowds supported by great volunteers A professional digital space allowing easy access to reservation, tickets and follow-up information A considerable support by media (in France which I follow regularly) to demonstrate the effects of equal coverages of Olympic and Paralympic sports and with the clear mission to be an eye-opener for paralympic performances A place of fun with common interactions, life music and life performances as well as building on the spirit of the Olympics ... and an incredible sunset on top. I am already looking forward to the next blind football tournaments! This first post Paris Olympics week is still carrying the buzz of excitement and inspiration! What was it about this Olympics that had many of us at hello?! Paris’ historic beauty is undeniable. In collaboration with the greatest sporting event on this planet, it was the first Olympics with full gender parity and delivered across 32 sports many magnificent moments, heartbreaking defeats, moving stories of the athlete’s pilgrimage to get there, fun entertainment (Snoop Dogg did not disappoint!), excellent “play by play” coverage and unity. For all of the upheaval in various parts of the world, the ability of the global sports communities to come together in respect and support, even in the throes of intense competition, was a master class in how to do it. -Lift one another up and celebrate the achievements -Learn from the experiences -Recognize the generations of Olympic athletes who came before and paved the way to be better, along with the competitors who pushed the level of performances to the highest and best in the moment -Appreciate all of it and the village of people who were an integral part of the journey While there were issues; some that could be quickly addressed and resolved, some that required an alternate plan and others that are still smarting from a questionable decision, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games captured our heart's and broke many records. #ParisOlympics #WaytogoUSA #lovewhatyoudo #teamwork #healthandwellbeing #LA2028

Re-Imagining Boundaries: Lessons from the Olympics With the Paris Olympics in full swing, it’s the perfect time to draw inspiration from sporting pioneers who re-imagined their sport. Daring to challenge conventional wisdom and set traditions, they redefined boundaries and blazed a trail of new heights. My favorite Olympic example is Dick Fosbury. An American high jumper who passed away last year, Fosbury is considered one of the most influential athletes in the history of track and field. He revolutionized the high jump event with a radical ‘back-first’ technique that became known as the ‘Fosbury flop’. Fosbury introduced his new technique to widespread skepticism at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, but soon captivated the world by winning the gold medal and setting a new world record. His innovative approach soon became universally adopted as the new standard for the sport. With such inspiration, ponder this as you watch the Paris games: What could be the next Fosbury Flop innovation in your industry? And how could you be the one to introduce it?
